11. Advertisements
You also understand and agree that use of the magicJackTM device and Software will include advertisements and that these advertisements are necessary for the magicJackTM device to work and for the service to be free in the first year of the agreement (and subsequent licenses to be at minimal cost). Advertisements will be served through the magicPageTM Software. magicPageTM Software attempts to serve local advertisements and classifieds using a completely automated process that enables us to effectively target dynamically changing content. Our computers may analyze the phone numbers you call in order to improve the relevance of the ads. We do not provide any personal information to our advertisers or third parties. magicJack has a policy of restricting advertisers that it believes are inappropriate, but it does not guarantee the accuracy or integrity of any advertisers and does not endorse any of the advertisements that may appear in connection with use of the magicJackTM device. You also understand and agree that use of the magicJackTM device and Software may include certain communications, such as service announcements, administrative messages and newsletters, and you will not be able to opt out of receiving them.

Plus none of the links work in the TOS. I am not sure if they changed their business plan and this is an old TOS.

I posted it for an FYI since I only saw it during sign up and not on the Magicjack site.

Well like I asked in other threads, how can they provide unlimited calling at this price? Well thats the answer. So if you want to use MagicJack the cost will be to have adware on your system.

ad ware and pop ups

Does this mean they cut into your calls and conversations, "Hello! We are cutting into your call to offer this discount at Joe's Pizza Parlor! Now, back to your call!"???

Or will they have pop ups on the computer etc.

If so, that kills the deal for me. I have a zero toleration policy for ad ware and pop ups.

Thanks.

Can you dial from a handset then, or do you have to dial from the computer each time?

And my house is wired internally. Will I be able to plug into this and call from any internal jack in the house?

--> you can connect a phone to the magicstick usb adapter

And my house is wired internally. Will I be able to plug into this and call from any internal jack in the house?

-->not sure - but there is info in other threads and magicjack has a forum to discuss this

I understand you can plug in a phone, just wondering if you can dial from the phone.

I'll check out their forum... thanks.

Re: FYI: MagicJack Terms of Service

Sorry, but loading any ad software that scans the numbers you are calling and dishes up advertisements to me is not worth it.

magicjack forum & questions

Here are are a couple of answers to the questions.

MJ forum
»forum.magicjack.com/forum/index.php

1) Yes, the MJ can be connected to the inside wiring of the house. Be sure to disconnect the wiring outside before doing this, as the land line sends voltage that could damage equipment.
»forum.magicjack.com/forum/viewto···ng

2) Yes, you can dial the numbers from a phone.

3) MJ does NOT work with Linux. Rats. The FAQ says this will be available in however long for the mac plus 2 or 3 months.

4) MJ part longevity - still checking on this.

5) Will MJ eventually run from a router or gizmo without needing to have the computer on. Unknown but I have a feeling the answer is no.

6) Can you get an area code anywhere you want. For example can you get a Colorado area code if you live in California. Still checking on this.

Re: FYI: MagicJack Terms of Service

This has been discussed a lot in other threads. Let's not get excited here folks. Keep in mind this program isn't promoting spyware, ad ware, or pop-ups. Nor is it giving away your phone number to telemarketing companies. Theres a big difference between that and simply placing an ad in the softphone window.

You should be afraid since an ad may come up on the lefthand side of softphone for a Dominos pizza deal in your area. It could make you hungry and order a pizza. Talk about playing with fire.

Right I've heard pizzas have been used for attacks on homeland security installations.

Now back to normal programming.

ads and software

Ptrowski,

I've been reading the MJ forums and think the software doesn't scan your calls or computer. It just posts the ads which only show up on their software, and not anywhere else on computer. Also you can minimize the software to not see it.

True, maybe I am a bit paranoid but I would like to make sure that it all it is. Call me crazy...

And Johnny, it says in their own TOS it scans the calls and delivers local based ads.
