Stats help from someone at Teksavvy

Can one of you teksavvy folks help me with my stats? I was on Sympatico until Saturday. I switched over to my Teksavvy login prior to Saturday.

Just did a speed test and I think I'm on a lower profile now.
Formerly: I was getting 2500 d/l / 640 u/l
Now: 2119 down / 501 u/l

Just want to understand why, that's all.

Also, I know there's a remote in my neighbourhood. I don't know if it's turned up or not... last I checked it hadn't but I haven't checked with anyone in a few months. Hope I could ask you to check that out at the same time if you are able.

Thanks.

Edit: Phone is on the fritz (phone itssself) which is why I didn't call in. Going to get another phone later on...

When was/is the official date (5 days after ordering) that your service is fully activated?

It looks like you were switched from 3008/800 to 2496/640. Bell likes to do this for no apparent reason. 17dB SNR on the downstream is fine, you can easily go back up to 3008/800, and maybe a little beyond like 3488/800 perhaps, if they still have that profile available.

Thanks HiVolt.

blackdragon1 - 5 business days after ordering was the 19th. Ordered on the 12th. I gave Teksavvy the cancellation number from Bell (cancel on the 21st) and so they told me that the date they would activate the line with them was the 21st.

Keep in mind I'm not upset - if this is the least amount of pain I have switching over, that's good. Just want to fix that's all.

You should have seen when I switched to 3web from Rogers - when I was living at a place that didn't support DSL at all. Terrible.

Hmm. I'm not too sure then. Since when I checked did a speed test, 2 days before me official activation date, I was on a 3008/800 profile. But, on my activation date, I was up to the 5M/800K profile, as promised.

Since you were with Sympatico before, what profile were you on there? Also, it would be good to give TSI a call and see if they can help you out.

Thanks.

I was on the 3008/800 before. I hope that the remote in my neighbourhood is active (cross my fingers) and that I can also achieve those speeds.

I'll give them a call but my phone is on the blink, and I only have one. Cell phone minutes too costly right now, hence why I posted here. But yes, will do if no one gets back to me here.

So you switched from Rogers to 3web to Bell to Teksavvy?

lol, yes.

I actually went from Bell to Rogers to 3web to Bell to Teksavvy.

I was at St.Clair and Bathurst in Toronto. Bell dropped service on the line and said "go with Rogers" after using them for a year or two.

Rogers kept changing their prices over the course of 5 months after agreeing verbally on the phone that they wouldn't. Great service, but I think they are theives. So I went with 3web because a "few" people on DSLR said that their "cable" service was great and to go for it. Had them for 3 months because you pay for 3 months up front and well... they were awful.

About the time that the 3web contract was up, I moved to Riverdale (last April) right near the CO on Simpson Street and signed back up with Bell, my "provider of choice" at the time . Got 5 meg profile.

Split up with my wife and moved to High Park. Kept Bell for the remainder of the contract. It was during a few tech support issues that I got sick of Bell, and now with Teksavvy.

So, I prefer DSL, and because I have lived in 3 places over the past year and a half I switched providers more often than I should have.

Phone started working again.

Spoke to Tech support. They think I may get a 4 meg profile (higher than I had with Bell) within 24-48 hours or else what I had before... and they've put a ticket in for me. They said I'm at 57% capacity on the current profile.

Sounds like what you said is right HiVolt - Bell for some reason put me on a lower profile to start.

Cool, hopefully they will raise it a bit higher than you were before. Post your stats when they change.

looking good....not quite sure...although I don't recall seeing anyone on 4meg/800 so it could be that the Bell 4meg profile is 4m/512(you're only losing about 10KB/second upload in realtime)...

Thanks a lot Rick. No worries.... just wanted to make sure Bell didn't do something weird.

On another note, I'm trying to get my mother and uncle (Sarnia and Corunna) to switch to you folks at some point.

Thats a weird profile, They should put 4032/800, it can easily handle it. Though if you're not into heavy torrent seeding or sending large amount of data, it wont matter much.

i don't torrent much (a little, once a month or two) and only send large files when I'm in production and need to send files over yousendit.com

We can always send the ticket back in for shits and giggles to bump your upload speed, no worries =)

I called in and found out this profile is now being used by Bell. My line is near capacity at this profile hence why the upload speed is the way it is. I'm going to monitor it for a few days... if I don't get any disconnects etc, I'll stay on it. The alternative is not bad... I'll go back to 3008/800 until the remote down the street is turned on. Apparently it's been there for quite a few months...

I'm actually surprised I've got the speed I do, I'm quite far from the CO. Mind you I've wired the modem to the dmarc and using a long ethernet cable which helps. I was getting a third of the speed using the internal wiring last December.

Oh and by the way - terrific tech support "again".

Yes your line is near capacity for the downstream, but your upstream is clean and can easily handle 4032/800. Changing the upstream does not affect the downstream whatsoever, they are on different frequencies.

If you had 3008/800 without problems on Sympatico, you can have 4032/800 now.

If it were me, I wouldn't accept it, knowing the facts.

Ya you may want to give them a call again and ask to put in a ticket to raise your upload to 800.

It cant hurt, worse case is bell will come back and say they cant do it for whatever reason.
