Re: Cat pee'd on carpet... smell help said by robbylatham:Try a mixture of vinager and baking soda. The vinager will nuterilze the oder. Trust me. I am an animal owner and thats what we use.. The foaming action of the two will clean the stain out of the rug as well. 2nd this -- ~Safe Hex~ Team Discovery ~ Project Hope ~ Like A Hurricane~ |

 | Cats are smelly creatures. That's what they do, man...they make stuff smell. Cat + Oriental Rug = kinda serves you right. Cats don't forget much, so you might've pissed him/her off at some point..thrown away an old toy that you thought they wouldn't notice, changed the type of kitty litter you usually use, moved the food dish to a different spot, idk. They're very pissy and Obsessive-Compulsive animals. Ever see a cat give up a favorite spot on top of the microwave JUST BECAUSE there's now a bowl of fruit up there? Nuh-uh. Testy, smelly, sheddy creatures...love em... |

| reply to BK There's a difference between "peeing" and "spraying". I seeing some stories here that indicate a "spraying" issue, which is more of a behavorial thing. They sometimes "spray" their territory for dominance or when they feel threatened for some reason (and not just male cats, I once had a female who started doing it when we brought in a new kitten). Male cats will almost always spray if they aren't neutered. It's often difficult to find the "spray" spots as they are small and can be anywhere, even on walls or curtains, but the odor is much more intense. If anyone has seen a big cat in the wild on tv "marking" his territory, you'll know what I'm talking about.
Another consideration: if you have wood floors and the urine soaks into the wood (under a carpet especially), you will never get the smell out unless you have the floor sanded and re-finished to seal it. -- ~~"As long as America is an infidel enemy, terrorizing it is a duty." However, I don't let my two cats outside, but I've heard they are really good at keeping the mice, rat and chipmunk vermin population under control. -- ~~"As long as America is an infidel enemy, terrorizing it is a duty." Sayed Imam Abdul-Aziz el-Sheriff~~

 | said by La Luna:However, I don't let my two cats outside, but I've heard they are really good at keeping the mice, rat and chipmunk vermin population under control. We have one outdoor kitty and one indoor kitty.
Indoor kitty head count: 20 mice lifetime(old 2 family house + mess neighbors + huge grass field next to house = a lot of mice for kitty)
Outdoor kitty head count: •10 mice caught outside •3 rabbits •1 chipmunk •5 various small birds •2 full grown moles •about 15-20 baby mice •about 20 or so shrews(kind of lost track of these)
This little kitty really enjoys sharing his kills. All this in only 3 yrs of ownership and that count goes up all the time. I also know that he is good at clearing out other cats. When we first moved in our new house there were at least 4 other cats fighting over our street. Now I see one of those cats maybe once a month. Strangely the rabbit population kind of disappeared too... |

For the OP: I will third (or is it fourth?) the Vinegar mixture(it's cheap and you probably already have some in the house), and Vinegar is 100% non-poisonous(it's actually good to drink small quantities regularly) to you, children, and any other pets you may have. -- What was I in Highschool ?
