It would be cool if Google made an offer for all terrestrial based phone lines in the country and leased it out to any competitor.
That would be the ultimate extension of the free market and would be our best chance of finally seeing an explosion of broadband providers nationwide.
Dialup penetration was huge and even for rural folks. Who's to say that isp's would not if given the chance jump to help install equipment and serve the under-served across this nation. -- Mac Chatter »www.macchatter.net |

| Well Verizon and AT&T both have around $200B each in fixed assets, and Quest has another $50B. So that's $450B in fixed assets mostly made up of their networks. That's only just under 3 times the market cap of google, so if you can bid their stock up to $1,500 a share I'm sure the telco's would pounce on those %50 growth rates!
Maybe KKR could organize an LBO? Oh.. too late. |
