I can't use a regular international phone card that you buy at the corner store. their support "chat" folks should be able to clear up the problem of passing the DTMF tones. have you tried to contact their support chat staff? |

| reply to RockyBB I contacted the folks from the live chat about not able to use a regular phonecard and they said MagicJack was made that way. I used the local number on the card and it still didn't work. |

What exactly didn't work: the call did not complete to the dialed number, or it didn't pass the tones, or something else? |

| When I dial in the pin number for the phone card, says that "This pin number is invalid". But when I go to my land line it works fine. I also noticed when i dial the local access number, the Magic Jack Software the word "operational" pops up next to the number(regular phone call have no message). Tried many different cards......same result. It would be great if there was a way around it. Thanks. |

| Are you using a phone attached to the MagicJack to enter the codes?
A number of conference call systems (which are similar, I suspect, to calling card systems) have problems with the codes when entered from a phone - but work fine when the code is entered on the softphone (the MJ 'control panel'). Sometimes this is fixed by using a different phone - other times it's on the other end and can't be worked around except by using the softphone... |

| reply to swanboy I've had the magic jack for a few days, I get a great dial tone but then I get an ERROR message, #3. I have tried everything including tech chat. They cannot even help. I am disappointed not sure what to do. Has anyone else had this problem?

I have had my MJ for a week or so and ... it kinda works. Some numbers connect just fine and the sound is good (on the handset -- I have yet to get a sound out of my PC speakers when using the software). But sometimes when I try calling local numbers like my neighbor across the street or a supplier a mile away, I get a weird double ringing sound, then after about 6 rings (some of them being the double ring) I get a fast busy signal for a few seconds, then silence. The neighbor says their phone never rang. Again, this happens mostly to calls to landlines in my 817 area code and it is persistent, ie I haven't been able to call my neighbor using MJ since getting it.
It's kinda frustrating when I want to make a business call and cannot complete the call ... |

| reply to swanboy Update -- I finally found and did the update.exe thing at mjdotcom/fixit but alls thats happened is those same local numbers now have a 3-5 weird ring and after about 6 or 7 of those the attempted call terminates with a dial tone instead of silence.
As a side note, since my last post -- after changing a bunch of audio stuff on my machine and still getting no sound from the dial pad or ring sounds, I'm curious what I should hear. Since the calls I'm attempting seem to fail, would I hear anything at all?
Very confusing. At least I'm discovering these problems well before the 30 day trial is up (like that matters, I charged this thing to Discover and, since I've had the same card since the early 80's it's way ez to dispute).
Geez, I'm just trying to hook up with my neighbor when her kids are at school... |

2 Comments Richard Conti May 29th, 2008 at 2:40pmHi Folks, I do not usually write reviews at all but this time in defense of a really great product I simply felt compelled to do so. I am no youngster nor am I a computer genius as the inventor of this amazing product surely is in my opinion. I am merely a former New Yorker now living in Boca Raton, Florida. I have worked in many fields through out the years ,one being sales and this MagicJack has to be a saleperson's dream. At first I thought another gadget that is sure to fail like all the other as seen on TV disasters of the past. They are usually junk in my opinion and one really has to be very careful and even a bit ready to get one you know where !! However, because of this fella Dan who invented this product and his background I thought I would take a chance. Well I did . . . . .. . . It works great !! I have since ordered two more and turned on a bunch of my friends to this great deal as well. Who wants to give hundreds of dollars away each year to the phone companies or even the Skype Sellers for that matter !! I use one at home here and I sent two others to people in Brazil , a step son and an Uncle through marriage. Took about a week to get to them but once they arrived they were calling me right off in less then 5 minutes and clear as a bell. Dont know who was more thrilled Them or Me :O) According to what you have set up in your PC I guess you may or may not have to go through a few quirks but MagicFix takes care of that for you very , very quickly without ever a need to call anyone or wait on hold for an hour !! I had no problem at all with mine nor did my step son. Uncle had a bit of an issue but was on his way in less then 15 minutes and everything has been fine with ALL of us ever since. If you simply use this gadget when you traveled and only traveled once a year it would still be a bargain. To use it anymore then that as we do is a God send. Now that they have their own in Brazil they can call us here on any of our phones, cellular or a wired home phone. Not only us but anyone here and anyone who has their MagicJack number can call them as well and without the use of a computer at all. Amazing !! Thank you Dan for a Great Product and Thanks for ALL that money we are saving too. P.S. One last note to all those nay sayers and complainers I have seen out there who prompted me to actually write this review in the first place. Patience !! Find out what YOU are doing Wrong or What is WRONG with YOUR System and ALL will be fine. And MOST Important . . . . . read those helpful tips and above all the instructions !! Dont know what the heck you expected for such a low price anyway. Did you expect the guy to come over and personally set this up for you and give you lessons ? I know people who are computers morons admittedly and even they found it as simple as a childs toy to use. Maybe some of you are just over qualified :O) Have a Great Day A Better Night and an even Better Week End |

Hi all, I ordered a magicjack yesterday and I was wondering if anyone has ported their current number over to magicjack? I read somewhere that it is now possible for a $10 fee. My area code and city is on the list for available numbers, so I'm hoping I will be able to keep my number. Thanks, Scott |

Yes, but not yet. You will be able to transfer or port your existing local phone number to magicJack, for a nominal fee, in the coming months.

It will be interesting to read your opinion of magicJack once you try it. I certainly will renew for an additional year once my subscription expires in a few weeks. |

| reply to swanboy I was paying $65.00 a month for my cable phone service. Tie up your PC with pop ups? Have at it magic jack. Doesn't matter to me. Here's what I've done. Went on Ebay and bought a small $108 desk top PC (no monitor) I used a monitor I already had with the current system to set up the magic jack. I also ordered a VGA monitor switcher for $25. Bought a new battery backup for the ebay PC for $45. Already had an old 3 unit cordless phone system. But you can buy these fairly cheap. My internet and home networking already has it's own UPS. My cheap PC only runs my Magic Jack, I use it for nothing else. I also use the power saving feature of the PC. No worries of, power outages, internet outage due to a power failure, PC ads or pop ups. Its all stand alone and the cost is more than worth it. I use my laptop for everything else. If your worried about adding MJ to your computer, this is the way to go. Its a no brainier. |
