| Has Anyone Gone With JoiPhone??
I did back on the 18th and requested porting of my number. I got the adapter the next day, as promised, and I am up and running but have yet to get an update on the porting. Emails to Tech Support have not been answered and contact via phone is met with "all agents are busy, please leave a message".
Can anyone else share their experience with JoiPhone?

| After submitting the porting form they emailed me last week, I got a response a couple of days later that my porting was being processed. I'm still able to forward my old number with SR, albeit with strange ring tones and delays, so I'm willing to sit on this for awhile. |

| Thanks Doeymeister...
I also got a confirmation email regarding the porting but have been unable to get a response from them via email and no luck with calling them. I have my SR number forwarded to my cell phone which is still working.
Two other family members went with me to JoiPhone and we all have another problem which they have not responded to yet. (my nephew emailed them on that issue). If we place the adapter in front of the Router as they recommend, we lose 40% of our download speed and 20% of the upload. Also, since we cannot gain access to the adapter interface, we are unable to open ports which we desperately need. When we place the adapter behind the router we lose the ability to hear the other party when calling out and the incoming calls have a very weird ring and a significant delay in connection.
Are you experiencing any of these issues?

| reply to joepwpb I signed up with them last Wednesday.HAven't heard a word from them since until this morning after I sent them pretty nasty mail last night. This morning I got instructions on how to change my gizmo to receive calls. Not sure it will work as my Gizmo is the old version. Not innomedia. I am very upset with the lack of service I have received from JoiPhone so far. I have the same experience trying to call them and send mail. I would think I should have received their router by now. I really regret taking these guys over VoiceStick. Still not too late for me to change. I also filled out their form regarding Number transfer last Wednesday. Haven't heard a word about that either. All in all, to me, they are even less responsive than SR was. |

| reply to joepwpb I also signed up with Joi Phone last Wed. and received my adapter within 24 hours. Thought that everything was going to be fine, until I installed it and lost 60% of my upload/download speed. I tried to install the device behind the firewall but was unsuccessful. I could not hear the incoming callers voice. I sent multiple emails without any response. I need to be able to access the adapter (SPA2100) in order to set it to a static IP and check the ports that it is using.
Any Ideas????? |

| reply to joepwpb I was a SunRocket user, now officially I am a JoiPhone user.
I called support once - no one answered - I hit 0 and someone picked up and told me to email my request for username/pwd for my Linksys 2102 to gizmo@joiphone.com 36 hours after I signed up via the web, and 24 hours after I called the support number I had my login information.
Note: I was able to get into my Linksys 2101 via the passwords etc, available on the web. I then turned provisioning off, and was able to make the necessary modifications to the device to get up and running with JoiPhone.
The joiphone instructions to setup the device after you login it are out of date. I found that I had to find the appropriate places to set the values they wanted me to set. Not too much of an issue, but someone needs to update that. I tried also configuring my Line 1 and 2 with the same login but different ports (and tried the same too) but when I did that, only Line 2 rang. So I disabled Line 2. I didn't need it anyways, it would have be for convienence. The only thing I had to do that wasn't on the configuration list was program in all the *Features into the Regional tab of the device. This is pretty obvious with the only one missing from the list for voicemail. There is a place called Feature Codes where you can add the *98 there and you are all set.
The voice quality is already 100x better than SunRocket. The admin page for your account is not that obvious when you are looking to make changes like setting up hunts or voicemail settings, however they have online guides with screenshots, etc that make it easy.
They have a lot of features comparable to Vonage, but include hunt, simulink, music on hold, email of your voicemail etc. They also have the cheapest unlimited min plan as well (US/CAN).
Overall - being with them all of 30 minutes and calling myself from my cell phone a dozen times... it seems fine
Time will tell - but so far I am satisfied.
Another thing - I started a new phone number and then would recommend porting your existing number over through there support. I've read some people got theirs ported within 24 hours, and others up to 3 weeks.
The don't offer many areas near my place - but I ended up with a killer number - so i didn't even bother porting. They seemed to have a good selection of easy to remember numbers - more than vonage/sun rocket.
I hope this helps |

I finally managed to get thru on the phone to Tech Support and was greeted by Marco, an absolutely great Tech!! Although the call volume to JoiPhone has not subsided I was able to get thru in less than minute because they resolved the issue with the phone system which was causing disconnects and congestion. First, we worked on the porting issue. He told me that the 24-48 hour time element claimed on their web site was contingent upon my SR number being with the same CLEC as JoiPhone, if not, then they would have to submit a request to the whoever the CLEC is that has my number. I am not on the same CLEC as JoiPhone but my request is being expedited and I believe him when he says that they are doing everything in their power to get our numbers ported.
Next we worked on getting the adapter behind the router. He furnished the User name and Password then offered to walk me thru the configuration but I was on the JoiPhone line at the time so he verbalized the necessary steps. I wasnt sure I had it all so I informed him that my nephew was trying to do the same thing and asked if he would be willing to call him and walk him thru the process. He said, Sure, no problem!!! Now thats first class Support. It gets better. He said that his shift was ending in a few minutes and asked if it was OK to have another Senior Tech on the next shift call my nephew
and he did!! My nephew got a call from an awesome Tech named Adam who worked with both of us by me calling my nephew on his SR line and we all were on speakerphone!! As we went thru setting a static IP in the adapter he discovered that our units were not on the correct port (9147 not 5060) and the static IP would not hold because Engineering would have to set our accounts to allow for a static IP. So, he sent off a request for me and my nephew to have our accounts adjusted and stated that he would call us tomorrow when it is completed. Then we moved on to the final issue of access to the Web configuration page for line 2, which neither of us could access. Within a matter of minutes he had the issue resolved for both accounts.
Needless to say, I am extremely satisfied with my choice of JoiPhone. Not only do they offer great prices and excellent quality, their Tech Support is unmatched. It was such a pleasure to work with Adam and Marco because they were friendly, knowledgeable and overall a true credit to their organization. We all know what a nightmare Tech Support can be with the outsourcing overseas to Techs that can barely speak English and can only afford canned responses. These guys at JoiPhone were the best I have ever had the pleasure to work with. I sure hope they get the recognition they deserve from their Managers.
If anyone is looking for an alternative to the Taliban, Via Talk or P8 I would highly recommend you take a look at JoiPhone.

| reply to joepwpb I agree! Joiphone is a great replacement for Sunrocket. The Simulring is DIFFERENT and support had to explain that to me. I have a locked adapter that I can not get into to make even the simplest change to other than that I'm happy with their service. |

| reply to joepwpb I signed up for Joiphone from SR. I never got an email letting me know my account was active. I used my username/password and figured it out myself. They sent me the adaptor in 2-3 days. If it's in from of my router, phone calls are clear, out/in. If I place it behind my router, I'm having internet issues. My browser gets hung up and internet pages are not fully downloading. Then sometimes it works. It's driving me nuts. Also, (behind) my router, inbound calls have a lot of static. Outbound calls don't connect immediately and like calls the other person twice like does the call waiting thing but calls are a little more clear. I have at least 4 emails into support and haven't gotten any response. I will probably try calling to see it I can get it all straightened out. Another thing, after making a call, it takes at least 15 seconds to connect.
I filled out the port number request via email and have no idea if they got it yet. They did not respond and don't know if I have to fill out a seperate for form like others are talking about.
So far, I'm not really happy but going to try and get it all worked out and post an update.

| If your router supports MAC level QOS, you can give the Adapter highest priority by MAC, and set all other devices to standard priority. Make sure that, even though the device is "inside" your router, you connect the WAN/Internet port to the router, not the LAN port. |

| reply to gjakes gjakes,
I experienced similar problems but most of them were eliminated when I configured the Adapter behind the router.(I still experience a significant delay connecting on Outbound calls.)
I was one of the unfortunate ones to get the 10BaseT SPA-2100 adapter which had to be put behind the router because of the loss of download speeds. This configuration revealed another problem in that the 2100 has a conflict with D-Link routers. After learning this from JP I confirmed with Level 2 of D-Link Support. D-Link stated that they were aware of this issue with "some" of their Routers and "some" Linksys Adapters. Needless to say they didn't want to commit as to which device was at fault. I and my nephew, also a new JP customer, proved this by replacing our D-Links with a Netgear and a Linksys. I don't know what equipment you have, hopefully it is not one of those I discussed here.
The call quality is great and all of the features work fine. The only issue is with the outbound connection delay.

| reply to joepwpb My internet provider is Comcast. I have a Motorola SB5120 Modem, Linksys WRT54G V.3 Router, and the Linksys Adapter SPA2100 from JP.
Right now, my Router is behind the adapter but have both phone quality problems and call out problems. When calling out, when the other person answers, he can't hear me then it calls again where the other person has to answer via Call Waiting. Is that weird or what? I've tried it several times. Imbound callers are complaining about a lot of static. Outbound calls are clearer.
With adapter behind the modem, calls are clear but having internet problems. Like I had before with SR, I want to run the Adapter behind the rounter.
I still haven't reveived any emails back from JP's Support. It's been about 4 or 5 days now. Not impressed at all.
So, what do yall think I need to do?
Thanks for your help.

For starters go into the router and Port Forward 5060-5070 and 10000-20000. Let me know if that works.
BTW...Page 15 of your Routers manual will show you how if you don't know.

| Hey Joe
I ported forward the Router. That didn't work. I'm still getting very poor voice quality on inbound calls. Outbound calls seem fine but inbound caller getting a lot of static, popping noise. I'm about to kick this company to the curve. What other ideas you have?
Thanks,

Thanks, gj Go into the Router and put the Adapter in the DMZ. Again, if you do not know how, the instructions are on the same page, 15, of the manual. If that does not fix the problem it is time to call Support. In the event that you have to call Support, (I hope not!!) have them setup your adapter for a static IP then place that IP in the DMZ.

| reply to joepwpb The phone adaptor is actually a VOIP Phone + Router that has NAT and a Firewall built in. So if you can't connect and get your internet and VOIP working correctly it most likely is because you connected the Phone adaptor behind another router. Think about it? 2 routers= to NATs and 2 Firewalls. To get it to work properly you will need 2 more devices if you are using wireless. 1, you will need a wireless access point, 2. you will need a switch. So the Phone adaptor gets connected to the Modem, then the Switch gets connected to the Phone adaptor, then the Wireless Access Point gets connected to the Switch. Wired computers connect directly to the switch. If you still get issues then Adjustments in the firmware will need to be made. If your wireless is not working then Adjustment to both Firmwares' of the Wireless access Point and the Phone Adaptor need to be made. |
