Re: Qwest DSL and Window Update problems... said by dropship:I have set the allow all applications on the firewall so I don't know what else it would be in the firewall? Beats me too, I don't have access to one, I'm just going off of the pictures they have on their website:
It shows options to "View Internet Access Control" and "View Content Screening", which seem relevant to your problem. Do you see anything there that would block access to a website? -- "I'm sorry, Prince Edvard. You had a wonderful civilization here on Marduk. You could have made almost anything of it. But it's too late now. You've torn down the gates; the barbarians are in." |
|
 | well I bet that is the problem. However when I looked at the settings from the image all I have are:
Edit firewall settings View device details
Thanks for your assistance! |
|
 | I just checked the site and those links will only appear if you have parental controls on so it appears that wouldn't be an issue for me. |

| I'm about ready to throw in the towel, I can't think of a reason why you would be unable to resolve the hosts. The IP addresses are not blocked but the DNS resolution appears to be.
Did you check your web browser to see if it is configured to use a proxy? -- "I'm sorry, Prince Edvard. You had a wonderful civilization here on Marduk. You could have made almost anything of it. But it's too late now. You've torn down the gates; the barbarians are in." |
|
 | I'm using FireFox and IE and both have the same problem.
And the browser works fine with my cable modem all the time. I don't think it's configured to use any proxy. |

| Sometimes ISP's will configure your web browser without telling you (if they give you an install disk).
You can check in IE by: 1) Open Internet Explorer. 2) On the Tools, select Internet Options. 3) Click on the Connections tab. 4) Click on the LAN Settings. 5) Check to see if the "Proxy server" option is selected, if it is un-select it. -- "I'm sorry, Prince Edvard. | reply to Myoits It could be malware causing this issue. Many will attempt to block updates.
So have you done a thorough virus and spyware check? |
|
 | Yes I have done both and it's still no good.
My server that hosts these sites said that it appears to be a DNS issue with my ISP, but of course my ISP denies that. (Qwest) |
|
 | You can rule out DNS if you use an alternative DNS server.
Try OpenDNS instead of Qwest DNS.
See »www.opendns.com/ for more information. |
|
 | Hey that worked like a charm, thanks!!
So I can assume it's a 2wire issue and not Qwest? |

| I would think it means that Qwest's DNS servers were at fault for whatever reason.
Cool that you got that problem worked around. -- "It's like a Zen koan - if you say something stupid, and no one is there to hear it, are you still an idiot?" -Mike Krahulik |

 | reply to Myoits I agree, sounds like Qwest DNS. No great loss as you can use another DNS server. Just be aware that if you update the modem your DNS setting may revert back to Qwest. |
