RickPremium,MVM join:2001-02-06 Waterbury, CT | The numbers they don't want to talk about... Guess what folks?....
Another almost TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND LANDLINES bit the old dust.
Yep..that's right. In just one quarter..there goes another 1/4 million.
And you know what? I think if I was a TELEPHONE company..I might find that just a teeny weeny bit concerning.
But hey..that's not all..is it?
Remember that next generation video..voice and HSI service we've been hearing so much about? You know..the one that for what seems FOREVER now has been rolling out to all kinds of cities across this great land of ours.
Well, guess what kids... You know how many customers they've managed to sign up for it?
Hold on to your seats folks. It's a real whopper.
51,000.
Yep..that's right. FIFTY ONE THOUSAND people have flocked to AT&T's door for the latest in copper technology.
I mean, doesn't it seem like AGES ago that the AT&T fanclub was telling us the number was 40,000. And so, in between THEN..and todays earnings release..they've managed to really sock it too the cable industry, by adding another 11,000 customers.
Ya know what? Like I've said over..and over and over.. when you have a telco this size..and they're losing that many landlines..and their next generation uverse service is this much of a failure to date...you really don't have very much left now, do you?
Well, of course..they do have the Iphone.
Is it any wonder that the market is now panicking over those numbers?
AT&T...listen up. And listen good.
You don't have much time left.
Ftth..is what you need to do now.

 | Ages ago? You mean like 2-3 weeks before the quarter ended?
So how many Fortune 500 companies you run? |
|
 | reply to Rick »www.att.com/gen/press-room?pid=5838
Just to show you how silly that rant was. It was 40,000 subs on June 12,2007. So in 18 days they added 11,000 in their select markets. |

Ftth will be rolled out starting 9am tomorrow if that were to happen. |

RickPremium,MVM join:2001-02-06 Waterbury, CT | reply to bogey780 So, what you're saying is..as long as Uverse has been out now they've managed to add enough customers to cover just 3 weeks worth of this quarters landline losses.
Wow.
I'm impressed. -- The Coyote captured the RR! Roadrunner Rick is now Comcastic! |

q4 2006 3,000 q1 2007 13,000 q2 2008 51,000
It appears the ramp up is going nicely. I would think they will be over 100k by the end of q3. |

I would think they will be over 100k by the end of q3. Soooo...let me get this straight now. In a year to a year and a half's time, at&t has managed to sign up 1/3rd as many pewverse customers as they have iphone customers..in just two days time.
Is my math about right?
Seriously now Cwh, do you REALLY think this service is a success so far?
They're in what now..about 25 markets? And they've managed to pull out of their hat..50,000 customers? 2k per market?
Wow. Even I couldn't envision a year ago it being as bad as this. -- The Coyote captured the RR! Roadrunner Rick is now Comcastic! |

cwh join:2006-05-14 San Antonio, TX | And how many iphone would have been hooked up in two days if a truck was required to roll to owner to install and hook up equipment.
The real question is, how does this ramp compare to what verizon did starting in keller tx. I suspect they are not going to be dramatically different.... |

 RickPremium,MVM join:2001-02-06 Waterbury, CT 1 edit | CWH..a serious question for you.
If a new harry potter movie came out early last year..and in a years time they managed to get 50,000 people to go see it..
would you consider that movie a success? Anything close to it?
Anything worth salvaging there at all?
With all due respect, your arguments have gotten pretty weak. Now it's they can't seem to get trucks rolling fast enough.
CWH...25 markets or so...all those millions of homes passed...all those employees who signed up for it in Texas where the first rollout took place...all these months..posts back and forth to me...
And they now have...
50,000 customers to show for it all. All the money spent..all the advertising they've done.
CWH..it's a flop. Perhaps not for you who seems to like the service and who had problems with TW RR...but overall..in terms of market acceptance..it looks pretty bad overall IMHO.
I'm sorry. |

cwh join:2006-05-14 San Antonio, TX | reply to Rick How many iphones would have been sold and installed if they were deliverd to the customers house with a truck roll and installed with existing equipment? Not many.
So how quickly could train installers to ramp installion speed. How does the current ramp compare to verizon as they left kellet texas. I suspect the different is not th at great. |

cwh join:2006-05-14 San Antonio, TX | reply to Rick IF they had to build theaters in those market at the same time those would not be bad numbers....
you really need to stop with stupid analogies... |
|
 | reply to Rick Your logic is totally insane. That'd be like saying the 400k subs for Fios proves it's a failure considering the large sums of money spent and the fact the sevice is about to enter its third year. After all... if Harry Potter was out for 3 years and only 400k had seen it then that would be a disaster.
Look, do us all a favor and spend all your money shorting T. If you're right you'll amke millions. I look forward to you putting your money where your mouth is. |
|
 | Isn't 400,000 just for Fios TV. |

1 million out of 6.8 million passed is pretty damn good. The numbers for UVerse are pretty bad by comparison, even with the disparity in times available.
On a related note, I saw the new AT&T trucks stringing fiber along the road near my house. Thank god I'm not serviced by them however and my small little ILEC already ran fiber to my home. -- Oh I'm so creative and all my programs are so easy to use ... |
|
 | While having 1 million customers is nice the cost to pass 6.8 million isn't. AT&T by the end of 2008 will have a larger number of houses passed with their service at a lower cost.
This isn't a game of seeing who can get the fastest connection to the house the quickest. It's a game of staying in business. AT&T is doing a pretty good job with that. |

 | Once...maybe twice. The FTTP greenbuilds are futureproof. The new FTTC platform can do the speeds GPON can do. Only the FTTN would need to be replaced. And even then it's much cheaper to run the final mile than run the whole route. |

en102Canadian, eh? join:2001-01-26 Valencia, CA | reply to Rick I agree... acceptance levels are pretty low. I'm waiting to see how desperate they get, and how cheap the service will be before I sign up.
Since there's no requirement for POTS/LD, it makes it even better.
Of course, they've had service officially available here since May, but my area still doesn't qualify.

| reply to bogey780 Wait one minute...new FTTC equipment can run at GPON speeds at 5,000' from the customer? I really need to see a link to a supplier that can do 2+ Gbps over copper at that distance.
It is my belief that your looking at the numbers and taking the word of some "expert" that slants the numbers in the wrong direction. |
