No 3g

If you are willing to spend that kind of money on a phone, wouldn't you expect it to have the most recent technology? No way in hell I'd spend $500 on a phone that can't do 3g. I waited for a price drop on the 8525 and I'm happy. I wasn't willing to spend $399. Got a refurb for $99.

With 3G coverage sucking so bad, for me not having 3G wasn't a deal breaker. I've read that the Euro version of the iPhone is supposed to be 3G so perhaps next year Apple will release a 3G phone in the US and 3G coverage will have improved.

As for price, my Treo 700w was $600 w/ 2y contract when I got it from Verizon (when the model just came out) and it sucks. It's just par for the course with brand new stuff.

AT&T sucks. No 3G, and even if so, in very limited areas. they should have signed with Sprint, with the most widespread and fastest 3G network in the US. Verizon, a runner up. Why they went with AT&T is beyond me.

iPhone with CrapT&T EDGE is like getting a brand spankin new quadcore computer and getting dialup for it.
