Re: Wow, how about a little perspective

Why revenue increased is irrelevant (so long as margins are maintained) unless you're looking to give credit for it.
Actually, the how and why of revenue increases is very relevant... The how and why shows what is and is not working for an organization. The revenue increases that T saw appear to be a windfall from the Bellsouth takeover.

If you are only interested in whether or not revenue increased and whether or not margins are up...you have your answer and the news is good.
If all you look at is revenue, then you are ignoring even more important facts. Revenue is only part of the equation. You need to know CAPEX, the outstanding debt an organization carries, etc. Revenue, by itself, is a worthless number.

AT&T is doing just fine despite claims of gloom and doom over POTS sub losses.
This past quarter's numbers make it appear that way. However, this is not a typical quarter. You can't use one quarter's numbers to judge the health of an organization.

Some of the numbers were just for the quarter, some for less than 2 days, some for the entire year.

But none of this matters to this news item.

I'm not talking about whether or not we should buy stock.

I'm talking about whether or not this 'gloom and doom' picture being painted about AT&T is justified. And to that I say no. Margins are up, doesn't matter why. Revenue is up, doesn't matter why. These are simply good indicators that AT&T doesn't have a goot in the grave.

U-Verse penetration does seem low when AT&T itself says U-Verse will reach 18 million potential customers by the end of 2008.

And I bet a bunch of those DSL adds are for the $10 plan.

I was very happy to move from $45/month cable to $10/month AT&T DSL, and will be keeping it as long as it remains that price (at least until the end of 2009)

Hopefully AT&T will offer some more realistic POTS rate plans in my old Bellsouth area soon.

The lowest residential tariff here comes to $30/month after all taxes/fees (unlimited, no metered plan offered)

Plenty of competitors will give you unlimited LD with tons of features for that price.
