Re: MSN live maps with 3D views of Canadian cities CIBC |
That's a good find. I didn't even notice.
A close-up shows the logo even better. A quick search, and according to the CIBC web site (nice logo page btw), says the chevron was used from 1966-1986. Wow!

Makes you wonder who's putting those images together, lol? They must be using some really old pics. -- You have to wear the foil shiny side out or it doesn't work. - Hanrahan |

| DS,
Based on the photos some of them are from "previous" City 3D work. A majority of the cities in right now were put into 3D for other projects. The Toronto ones look mostly like the work done for the O. bid.
I interviewed at a company over a year ago, who specialized in both city images, and 3D models. They bought them off companies who did them for other presentations and then sold them for others who wanted the work.

Well Ottawa is covered and we're just the city next to the center of the universe. |

 Calgary Downtown |
Calgary is covered too. The downtown details are very accurate and seem to be fairly recent. The two buildings that are under construction in the foreground in this picture are still under construction, although much further long than shown. |

RiamenPremium join:2002-11-04 Calgary | Yeah a lot of the recent downtown construction projects are not shown. It's still fairly impressive. I'm waiting for the day when we'll be able see all of this in real time.
BTW Calgary seems to be the only western city with the 3D rendering. Vancouver and Edmonton don't have it. |

shanerPremium join:2000-10-04 Calgary, AB | Well, that's because Calgary is the (western) Centre of the Universe.

For instance this is the standard detail when flying my favourite DC-3 around the centre of the universe Toronto just before sunset. Also Montreal and some other major cities throughout Canada and the world are rendered in a fair amount of detail just in the standard out-of-box version of FS -- and this is from the old FS 2002. It's really pretty remarkable when you consider that flight dynamics and navigation are really what FS is about, and true-to-life scenery is just a frill.
P.S.- the DC-3 is a free 3rd party add-on, not part of FS. Very nicely done and very easy to fly, just like the real one!

Note the GPS screen -- CYKZ is Buttonville!

EDIT: Just noticed that the current screenshot looks like crap compared to the earlier ones -- I replaced my video card a few months ago (both nVidia models) and apparently FS doesn't anti-alias properly with the new one. If I force anti-aliasing at the driver level it works fine, though!! I suspect that this will keep me busy for weeks if not months now looking for FS or driver updates!
