Man... it's amazing what kind of speeds you get during non-peak. 1am and I am smoking

Here's a quick every-ten-minutes ping to the 24.158.96.226 address to illustrate precisely when "prime time" begins and and then levels off. During the rest of the 24-hr period latency appears to be very low as well.

Charter has gotten really bad, like now 4pm in Kingsport sunday evening and I am getting 2mb down from speakeasy when I should be pulling 10 or so like during the week when I check it, horrible! My pings seem to be sorta ok though.

It is obvious it is on charters end. The question I would like some one to answer is if charter in East Tennessee knows about it and what they plan to do about it? IN OTHER WORDS, HAS ANY ONE POINTED THIS THREAD OUT TO CHARTER MANAGEMENT??? IF SO WHAT WAS THE RESPONSE??

I could call tech support--go through the drill--but as we all know--it would do little good as it is on Charters end, and nothing they can do at my end.

Something is terribly wrong as one post IsdnWolf said they were only at 50% peak time??? We should all have a great connection, ping time, and down and up speed if peak is running at 50%??

I do not know about you guys but this seemed to start about the same time Charter came out with VOIP phone service in our area (about two months ago). I should know as I signed up for it here in Dandridge. People we talk to on the phone say we have background noise 50% of the time also--so the only charter service that is working right for me is the TV cable service.

Various tech support calls and a visit here by two Charter techs seemed to think every thing was OK? If any thing---they should have known about the ongoing problems in this area and some idea of a fix?
I am sure many who do not know about this site are wondering what in the world is going on and if they do call Charter--they are going to tell them the same thing they told me--which is all the signals are ok and every thing is looking good--maybe replace a modem or something to make the customer think they are doing something.

Or, more then likely, if a customer owns the modem or is running a router, they will blame the problem on that.

Like another said--too bad their is not another option. Competition is what is needed. The only other choice I have is dial-up

I agree. I would give anything to have the option to choose another ISP like Comcast. I wish the money I give Charter every month would suffer from latency when they go to spend it. Very frustrating....

I pay em 270 a month for two cable boxes, and two seperate cable modem lines, plus phone you would figure they would help out considering how much I dump on them a month. But nooooo first my computer has a virus, then I find out it happens on the 24 ip and they offer to sell me a business pack to keep me on the 71.xx ip subnet, what great customer service on that part =) I normally have to take 30 min on the phone to explain it is not my pc, my router is not hooked up, it's not my network card, etc.. it's a big hassle now =) It is 10:30pm now and I am up to 3mb a sec! woot!

Straight through the modem from kingsport to atlanta at 10:30 =( Earlier it was 2mb a sec, very odd I never not hit 999k upload speed, I am on 10/1.... Can we get some confirmation of baudwidth issues being worked on ISDN?

I think the majority of their tech support are just screen readers and have no idea really how to trouble shoot.

It's sad that 10:30pm on a Sunday night and the best ping I can get on a 2142 server is 160. My clan server is in San Jose so I am used to 60-80 on it, but tonight it was 250-400 and I had to disable the ping kick just to stay in the server. with 200+ ping the only thing I can do is play commander and admin the server.

Now if I didn't have to work a normal job for a living, I could stay up to 1 and 2am and have great speed... or I could stay at home during 8am-5pm and I would imagine I would get some decent speed then as well.

Bottlenecking at the same damn spot. This really irks the hell out of me that it's been going on this long and not been fixed. As I said, I really hoped the OC-48 would put an end to it, but this apparently is a different problem entirely.

I work a normal job but I pretty much work out of my own office and I do systems integration,I think I said that, so I am pretty much 16 or so years repairing and troubleshooting pcs and network, hardware, and software. I know it is not my problem at this point, and the tech that told me "it is nice talking to someone that knows more than I do" or the one that said "you have three established tcp and two udp ports listening this indicates a virus or spyware." makes me lose faith in charter, they used to have decent techs back in the one-way cable days when they were Intermedia here.

I feel your pain I wanted to play a little Battlefield 2 myself.

Haven't played much BF2 lately, been sticking with BF2142. Looking forward to Quake Wars: Enemy Territory for a change of pace.

Need to load up BF2 to check out Highway Tampa. To bad BF2 doesn't have the buddy list feature that 2142 has... or I would add you.

10 times difference in that hand off between 'dhcp' and 'static'

As much as I have called about this over the past 4 weeks, you would think word would have trickled down to the Kingsport office and they would do something. Oddly enough, my girlfriend doesn't have this problem in JC... just seems isolated to Kingsport.

Yeah quake wars should be good, I am getting old heh I remember the days of lpbs and stuff on the original quake and when multiplayer fps hit big with quake 2 heh. Yeah I didn't get 2142 I am not big on futuristic stuff, I am waiting for World in Conflict, Assassin's Creed (Xbox360), and Age of Conan. Yeah maybe kingsport is not that big of a market to worry about, cause yeah I call a lot and have been complaining of not getting my true 10mbit speeds since I got it 3 months, so they they got 3 months of notes of me complaining lol. Oh well if we inflate this thread enough more people will come forward and keep it alive. Maybe we should make a petition and deliver it to their kingsport jack white office, oh wait that tech center ran outta money =P

This happens all the time when it gets off prime time, remember I was at maybe 4mb max pulling 2mb most times, look at it now at 1:50am

Download Speed: 10027 kbps (1220.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 986 kbps (123.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

and my tracert is also normal again.. hmm it cant just be in our head. I think we are getting hit hard with baudwidth issues in my opinion.

After Charter promised me someone from Kingsport would call within 48 hours and no call yet, I have emailed Tony Falin who I have spoken with in the past. Tony if I remember correctly is over the Kingsport office.

Hopefully this will get the ball rolling on fixing this as it's completely worn out it's welcome.
