| I'm actually surprised at how quick Tony replied. There's a confidentially notice attached to his email so I will take that as a sign not to copy/paste his reply...
But I will say this, he asked for date/times of the trace routes that show the problem. He also asked if I knew other's with this problem (yeah duh!) hehe!
He is going to look into it and hopefully get the ball rolling. It's almost as if he was not aware there was a problem. Got to love how Charter communicates with each other eh? After all the calls we have made, it's like that never filters down to the local office.
I don't want to give out Tony's email address, but googling his name, it was easy to find... as it's listed on the Tennessee Cable Telecommunications Association board members page. If you wish to email Tony your results for tracert date/time, then Google is your friend |

Please point him to this forum. I hope he can get some one to take a look see.
As far as Charter getting information to each other, it is pretty hard to believe they are not aware of the problem?
My post above on tracert yahoo.com is with in a couple minutes of the tracert. |

| Pitch,
Since you had contact with him already might make more sense to put some of these replies in there. I listed the times on page 3 of the tracerts through the same hops as you, and then again at 1:50am when everything was normal. Right now during my working time I am fine at 9mb down 1mb up, but come around 9ish and my connection goes to crap pings 2mb down. We need a bigger pipe! |

| Ok..
Had a talk with all the engineer's this morning. We see the problem.
In a nutshell, we have several interfaces that go to our new OC-48 with ATT. One of the interfaces is maxed out. The other is not.
We are working on a solution to load balance this out a bit.
No ETA at this time. |

| reply to GreatPumpkin Thanks ISDNWolf--please keep us informed here as of ETA when you find out. Glad you guys know what the problem is.
Pitch--When you talk to the Charter Rep, since he is the man, maybe they can have his crew help out with what ever is needed (we can only hope). |

| Ok..
We are going to make changes Friday morning. We are awaiting approval of our ticket for this. Usually we try not to make any changes prior to a weekend, but we think this is important enough to push it though. There is the possibility we are asked to hold this off till next week though.
Before anyone complains loudly, this router handles over 100,000 cable modems. So, any changes we make has to be planned and vetted out. We do not want to have an issue where we drop all service for an extended period of time.
Will update more as the time approached. |

| reply to morvix What can I say that has not already been covered by ISDNwolf...
From Tony: "I spoke with our engineer this morning and it appears that the problem is a capacity issue on the backbone between two of our L3 switches. As you are probably aware, we turned up additional bandwidth to the internet recently and we are unable to take advantage of this because of the choke-point before our border connection. There has been a ticket entered to upgrade this capacity for Thursday night / Friday morning. Ill keep you updated when I learn more."
then a follow up...
"Sorry that you have not gotten a good answer to this point. I am not 100% sure when the problem was identified. Feel free to let the gang on the board know that the problem has been identified and is tentatively scheduled to be fixed Thursday night. Ill let you know if anything delays the fix."
So I have officially come to the conclusion that calling the 888 number for Charter is completely and utterly USELESS! It took a bunch of us posting on here and got Wolfie's attention and me emailing the guy over the Kingsport office to get something done.
Charter tech support is like conversing with unflavored popcorn... add butter and cheese salt and I think the popcorn might have had a one up on the phone techs. |

| ba-ba-ba-but let's unplug your router, reboot your computer, turn your modem off for 3 minutes, run a spyware / adware scan, make sure you don't have any viruses and then let's try a QCR...
UM NO!!! let's do a trace route and try to figure out why we bottleneck at the 4th hop... hehe!
At least we are making progress now. |

| Oh and dont forget to update your Realtec NIC card, when the version they gave me randomly gave me stop errors because the thing does not work with vista. Lucky I figured it out or I would have held them for the time it took for me to restore my system =) Now is the time to vent at all their stupid comments to me about having viruses and such. |

Kinda upset that I have 200+ ping this early in the day... that's sort of new! |
