Thanks for maintaining the list. I just had my TV installation in The Village of Chestnut Ridge this morning and was immensely happy to finally be able turn in my Cablevision boxes and cancel my account.

The FiOS tech said that they were swamped with installs here in Rockland County and had to bring in crews from Westchester and elsewhere.

Verizon just ran an advertisement in our local Manhasset Press aimed directly at the North Shore Cable Commission to approve a franchise for them. After the May 30th hearing In Great Neck which turned out to merely be preliminary I don't know what is going on. Both Verizon and the Commission members are pointing fingers at each other for allowing these talks to drag out for over two years. There were a number of pleas at the hearing to get the process over with as well as a request to the commission to keep the community informed and there has been no progress on both.

Does anyone know what is happening?

John

Hello,

Does anyone know the state of affairs for FiosTV and Syracuse, NY? Fios is being installed in the area now, but as far as I know there is not TV support. You would think with the data center being located in Syracuse, local officials would be supportive of FiosTV. Anyone know where things stand/an ETA?

Thanks so much!

So far, there is no Fios TV North of Westchester and Rockland counties.

I would recommend asking any Verizon workers you see what the status of the video hub office (VHO) is. There will be no Fios TV until the the VHO is ready.

@comcast.net

Thanks For the reply. So is this not a VHO?

If not, do they have to build a whole new facility or can they add to this one?

It's not a VHO. It's a customer service office, meaning the people you talk to when you call FIOS. There will be no FIOS TV in Syracuse for at least the next year or so.

@comcast.net
Sigh, very depressing news. Thanks for the help. Perhaps a Verizon tech can post what the status of an upstate/central NY VHO is. FiOS has been in parts of Syracuse since 2005

I am "lucky" enough to serve on a CATV Commission in NY. In general, the best external indicator for you of getting FIOS TV in an area will be the announcement of a VHO. VZ has to get the zoning permits, build it, staff it, and connect it; and that will not happen in total secrecy. Plus, VZ likes to make a press release when they decide to bring TV to a metro area.

Town of Hemstead - Yes, My parents had the VZ trucks in front of their house the other day stringing the fiber cables.

Hmm, could it be because Mr. Dolan lives on the North Shore of LI?

Mr Dolan lives in Oyster Bay Cove, outside of GN N Shore Cable Commission!

Has Verizon annouced the building of a VHO for other areas? I don't remember seeing any. Also, is the VHO in Syracuse going to require the construction of a new building, or just a "room" in an existing building?

They've announced a VHO in Pittsburgh. I have no details about VZ's facilities in Syracuse.

Anyone, if you live in Syracuse and see a Verizon truck, please ask the driver for info on the Video Hub Office that is going to be built in Syracuse.

FWIW, I called CC today about signing up for Fios in syracuse, and the guy said his Verizon rep said FiosTV would be coming in the fall...who knows how accurate that is.
