Wow, how'd they fit such a big lens into such a small box? And what's with all the hair on it? |

Believe me, I'm still drooling. The images are simply amazing. Wide open it's better than any of my other lenses at most apertures. I can't really see a difference with the 1.4x attached either. |

Canon PowerShot S230 5.4mm 1/60th F2.8
|
We went shopping yesterday while trying to get out of the heat (102 in the shade; up to 122 in the sun) and came home with this. My wife says it's my anniversary (Oct 14) & birthday (Oct 6) present. I wonder how long she's going to make me wait to open it. Picture was taken with my old S230. That camera has been good to me over the past 5 years. |

a VERY generous member of this board sold me these for a pittance. he knows it and i know it. these are in such magnificent condition it's like i'm doing an act of sacrilege just mounting them. they're are good people out there. i need to do something for someone now. |

Nikon SB-400 NIKON D80 24mm 1/200th F4 ISO200
box (diffuser not incl) | NIKON D80 24mm 1/60th F4 ISO200
SB-800 and SB-400 size comparison |
Mr. Rockwell pretty much sums it up: 1.) Bounce Flash. 2.) Coverage with ultrawide lenses - bounced (diffuser alone helps but still casts a shadow at ultra-wide ie. 12mm) 3.) To replace a bigger flash. It's great for indoors where happy snaps happen, but if I could only have 1 flash, it would be the SB-800. The SB-800 comes with many accessories (diffuser, integrated bounce card), and has robust remote abilities; any P&S can trigger the SB-800 like a strobe (SU-4 mode) as demonstrated below. In contrast, the SB-400 has no remote capabilities so I purchased the SB-400 for traveling purposes only. The built-in flash does 90% of what I need for fill (for vacation type photos), so if this flash was any larger and didn't have an adjustable lens, I wouldn't have considered it. FUJIFILM FinePix F30 8mm 1/60th F5.6 ISO100 Sb-400 on D80
Slightly off-topic, the SB-600 has remote capabilities but needs a commander flash. This isn't a problem for D70, D80, D200 bodies since the built-in flash has a commander mode. However, the SB-600 doesn't have the SU-4 mode that enables other light sources to trigger it.

absolutely, gugarci It's a fun, useful flash that you can enjoy right away whereas the SB-800's manual rivals the size of the D80's manual! |

I know my camera is not a DSLR. But, it is a great camera for me. I got my Canon PowerShot G9 Today. I took a picture of it along with the SanDisk Ultra III Extreme SDHC 4GB card (which was separate). Kristi |
