I think you should just be able to change over to the new modem. But I can not say for sure.
You could try putting the new one on the line and see if it works. You will need to reconfigure the modem/PPOE etc.
When my service was changed from one line to another a while back I never told sbc which modem I would be using, I just said I didn't need a new one. I used a SpeedStream 5100 which I got from an office I used to work at.
