Blast Upgrade Available in Bel Air, MD

Blast Upgrade Available in Bel Air, MD

I just noticed it today. I was paying the extra $10 for the higher speed (which was 8/768k). It is now 16/1.

Re: Blast Upgrade Available in Bel Air, MD

Sorry for the double post, but after doing more speed tests and checking, I am getting 16/2. To add to the incredible boost, apparently speedboost is still active. When starting a download, I get over 20 meg down (as high as 24 meg down) before it goes back to around 16.

I love the added upload speed, too!

Re: Is Blast! available in your area - Not PowerBoost Pt 2

Blast! is available for almost ALL of Montgomery, Howard, and Anne Arundel Counties in Maryland, as well as inrequent occurances in charles/calvert. There is none in Baltimore, or Carrol. There are small sections in Delmarva.

If you're in any of those areas call in to check

hi,
This is my story:
I live in south philly, zip 19148.
last night i went to comcast.com to sign up for the service and noticed that they offered 16mbps blast plan in my area. so i decided to call 1-800-COMCAST instead of ordering online. i talked to a rep and he said that he knew for fact that the 16mbps Blast is not available in Philly as of this moment. he also added that it's only available for testing in the suburbans around philly (with 6 months free of charge). also, the rates in his system were apparently higher than that on comcast.com (for example: the 6mbps plan from him is $42 for current customers or $19.99 for new customers, as opposed to comcast.com's $19.99 for current customers or $7.20 for new customers). so i wasnt able to sign up through him.

then i went back on comcast.com to sign up. the online rep added the 16mbps plan into my account for $29.99/month for 6 months.

however, when i tested the speed on DSLR.com and speedtest.net, the results were very inconsistent. it's all over the places, with the download speed mostly ranging between 8mpbs and 12mbps, sometimes up to 16mbps if i chose the New York test server. this, in addition to what the phone rep told me, puts me in serious doubt regarding which plan they are actually provisioning me

just for reference, this is one of the results from speedtest.net:

so am i having blast 16mbps or powerboost 16mbps?
is there a way to find out?

and no, fios is not here yet, although a couple people in center city said they have already been using fios

ok, i think they just provide me with powerboost 16mbps, because when i tried downloading windows xp service pack 2 from micrsoft (400+MB file), the speed started out at about 1.7MB/s for the first 20MB, then dropped down and hovered around 700-800kB/s for the rest of the file

still, is there a better way to prove that it's just Powerboost and not Blast so that i can throw it in their face and get my money back??

My Linky Connection page shows provisioned rate for both downstream and upstream. I don't know about the Motorola modems.

Re: Blast! Tier Availability in Richmond, VA

I'm also in Chester Virginia as well and just upgraded to Blast about a month ago. The download speeds I get are insane, just with the 16/2. Fastest internet I have ever had.

i noticed jay123's download speed is WAY above what the provisioned speed, 16 mbps, should be-once you get blast, isn't powerboost supposed to go away?

Re: Is Blast! available in your area - Not PowerBoost Pt 2

so last night i chat with them to complain about the bogus 16mbps that they were giving me. the billing rep said that they actually put me on the 6mbps plan and told me to contact their sales department to fix the problem, which i did. this time the sales agent told me the 16mbps BLAST plan (*i specifically asked her to make sure it's blast and not powerboost*) costs $33/month for 12 months, which is $3 more than what i were paying. so i told her to go ahead and upgrade me back to 16mbps blast. she told me the new speed will be effective in 24 hours.
i have powercycled the modem but have not seen anything so far. but let's wait and see.

Edit: ok, i think i should just give up with comcast customer service department. i just checked with their billing department again. they said i was still on their 6mbps plan (!).

nietsni3, you should keep bothering them until you get a rep who gets it right-if blast is available in your area, you have the right to get it

I don't see anyone else from Philly reporting Blast! availability. My guess is it isn't there yet.

yeah it's not advertised here yet. but that doesnt mean they wont let a certain number of people test it first.

however, i just noticed that as of monday this week (2 days after i first placed my order), after entering any Philly address on comcast website , I stopped seeing the 16Mbps blast posted as one of the available services. so did their web programmers foul up and put it on the website by mistake and now figured it out and took it down? i am afraid so

We had the upgrade, and the speeds were great for the first 2 weeks or so... but now we're barely getting half of 16mbit download. The upload still seems to be there, but the download not. I don't get it.

So fed up with Comcast and their Blast promises (lies)

I'm so fed up with comcast. First they tell me May for the blast which came and went and nothing then they SWORE June 18th then on JUNE 17th i get a call from comcast saying it was pushed back to Aug 18th so of course nothing happened so i call them right now pissed off and i made sure they knew I was an unhappy customer which was enough to get me a level 3 tier tech on the phone and he says the hardware side has been done for 5 months and that it is an upper management thing and that there is now no set date listed for my county (Delaware county PA) I said I'll be switching to verizon as soon as they finish the my area and he said "you and a lot of others" he flat out agreed it was BS and said if FiOS was in his area he would switch also because he is in the same boat and his area is not expected to get blast until spring next year which he feels will be pushed back over and over like it was for my area.

So what is my point? Basically do not believe a word that comcast says about blast and get FiOS if you can as soon as you can.

From your previous posts I gathered you were in Delaware state. I am the same AnonName who has been neck and neck with you throughout this thread as far as availability. I am in Middletown, where are you? (if you don't mind)
