Blast Upgrade Available in Hobart, IN

Blast! is here in Hobart, Indiana. I am currently testing out the new speeds, but have been sustaining 1-2.5MBps. Oh and I am paying the full $60-something dollars a month

Here is a screenshot of FSX download, with more to come. I'll post a speed test in the Indiana link when I get home.

Re: Is Blast! available in your area - Not PowerBoost Pt 2

I have Comcast business services at my home (not tele-worker but business) and have just noticed I have BLAST! as well with powerboost still enabled. I am getting 16/2 with out any problems. Fios is not available here and I don't know if I got put on a test plan or if it's just for business customers. I guess my $160 month is worth more now.

Just so you know ...

We try to track "confirmed" reports in the first post in this thread.

How can I show confirmation I have the Blast! tier?

Show a screenshot of an actual download and then an upload of about 100 MB of a much larger file which demonstrates that you do have the new speeds, sustained and not just an initial burst like PowerBoost.

Show a screenshot of a letter or email you received which confirms the new speed tier is available to you in your area.

Post a screenshot of a scan of a Comcast invoice which shows you have the Blast! tier on your account. (Be sure to obscure personal identification information.)

If you have a Motorola Surfboard 5120 modem, this post will explain how to confirm you have the Blast! tier via your modem logs. Some older Linksys modems will show the name of the config file in their diagnostic pages as well. Show us the screenshot, please.

Newer Linksys modems, such as Model BEFCMU10, Version 4 will show the caps on your connection. Go to the connection link via »192.168.100.1 and look at the provision rates for both downstream and upstream channels, as shown in this post. Upload a screenshot.

The various java and flash speed tests cannot confirm Blast! tier because they don't test download/upload past the bursts of PowerBoost.

Re: Is Blast! available in your area - Not PowerBoost Pt 2

Blast! is avialable in Wheaton, IL 60187 FIOS is not available here. I have had the service for about 1 month now. Interestingly, I called on a Thursday to ask about it was told no it does not even exist, Friday I called again and was transfered twice but still told it does not exist, Saturday I dug out my original work order and called the local number and was immediately told that it was available and within 10-15 min I was uploading large files at 2mbit/sec and have been ever since. It seems it may be so new in areas that the customer service reps don't even know about it in some cases.

Blast Upgrade Available in Steubenville, OH

LOCATION: Steubenville, Ohio (Cross Creek, between city limits of Steubenville and Mingo Junction)

URL=http://www.speedtest.net] [/URL]

Verizon FiOS Internet Service is not currently available for your address.

I am surprised there is not FIOS but then there is no Verizon land lines in my area. Fiber Optic was installed a few years back. It was surprising because at the time even Pittsburgh, PA did not have it. (I am 40 miles SW of Pittsburgh). AT&T (SBC) is the land line carrier for my area.

Verizon land lines are in the Richmond, Ohio area, which is 12 miles away.

Just read about this upgrade early this morning, and when I called Comcast I was suprised to learn that 8MB costs the same as 16MB, but they won't upgrade unless you ask... Here are my results from Manassas, VA:

Horsepuckey! I *never* asked. (In fact, I don't know anyone in my county that asked that has Blast! today.) They *still* have not done any advertising of it, either.

gotcha- yah got on that plan as part of a promo for $19.99 for one year. I bet I loss that promo price if I jump to the 8mbps plan.
Likely true (but you'll be jumping to the 16mbps plan). The *hard* part of having Blast! is that bandwidth on the *other end* becomes the big issue!

Just spoke to Comcast and the tech support rep told me they JUST had a meeting this morning and said they were going to roll out the faster speeds in MICHIGAN in MAY. Whe I asked how fast....16/1, 16/2, etc. She said she thought up to 50G download. Not sure if that was correct, but I am hopefull...can't wait.

This has also happened in Colorado. I'm in Parker, just south of Denver, and my residential business account just went to 16/2. I see spikes of 3megs+/sec on downstream, and around 2 megs/sec consistently (right around 16mbit). Upstream spikes to 380+KB/sec for about 50 megs and then levels at 260ish (around 2mbit). No FiOS here either. I wonder if residential will follow...

In those area's that Comcast automatically upgraded 8/768 customers to Blast did they do it for customers who have the triple play bundle also? I'm curious because I get all sorts of run around for why I have to pay $17 extra for Blast in Illinois. :|

Re: April 2008 Info Update on Blast in Manassas, VA

CleanGene,

I live in Stafford (22556) and was told by a rep that the Powerboost plan was the highest speed I could get (though they'd didn't seem to know what they were talking about, kept telling me that I already have the 16Mbps plan). The online checker says the same and also says that I cannot get CDV. Do I just happen to be in a non-most part of Stafford?

Thanks for your time,

Jeff
