Show a screenshot of a letter or email you received which confirms the new speed tier is available to you in your area.

Post a screenshot of a scan of a Comcast invoice which shows you have the Blast! tier on your account. (Be sure to obscure personal identification information.)

If you have a Motorola Surfboard 5120 modem, this post will explain how to confirm you have the Blast! tier via your modem logs. Since a recent firmware update the Motorola 5100 is again showing the config filename in the modem logs. See this post. Some older Linksys modems will show the name of the config file in their diagnostic pages as well. Show us the screenshot, please. This post recaps current config file names and translates what they indicate in terms of speed caps.

Newer Linksys modems, such as Model BEFCMU10, Version 4 will show the caps on your connection. Go to the connection link via »192.168.100.1 and look at the provision rates for both downstream and upstream channels, as shown in this post. Upload a screenshot.

The various java and flash speed tests cannot confirm Blast! tier because they don't test download/upload past the bursts of PowerBoost.

Blast should be automatically available when it is rolled out in your area. The standard letter they send says" between midnight and 5 am" (or similar) However, sometimes they don't force the reboot for a couple weeks after it is available, so a powercycle will be needed if you want it ASAP.

Your test looks cool, but Blast is not 25mbps - that's PowerBoost skewing the *test*

Either show the config page of your modem(if it shows provisioned speeds), or the logs showing the speedtier_extreme2 file...

Got it added to the account. As I was talking to the lady on the phone, I asked her if I did indeed have the blast service, she told me yes, and that everything should be running fine now. I also asked her about a firmware update sense It was a new out of the box modem. She then got very hateful with me and said “ I cannot give out that info thanks for calling Comcast”. So I called in again. Long story short, this time I was given a ticket number and was told that they would have to forward my problem to a higher tech level. LOL, I can achieve those results from my 6/1 tier connection. You need to download a large file and take a screen shot of the download when the speeds level off.

It depends on where you live and if Blast is available. Some areas have Blast but don't tell unless they feel the need to advertise due to competition. I've seen many cases where people discovered Blast while reading here at BBR's.com and simply "inquired" by calling Comcast. I'm not too sure if its a free upgrade from the 8/2 tier but it's worth the time to ask. I have the 6/1 package and Comcast wants to charge me an extra $20 per month to get Blast. It should be free, where available.
Essentially, the 16/2 tier is taking over from the "performance plus" (8/2) tier.
I believe in the long run most areas will have
6/1 as the basic service, 16/2 as the speed tier (+$10, right now, this could change) and 50/5.

most of the north end/eastside got the '40 day' letter in mid may (mine was postmarked May 13) but areas were rolled out at different times, I got the 8/2 upgrade first, even though it was announced later (required a manual powercycle to kick in) my Blast upgrade happened on june 26-27 without any powercycle (but it wouldn't hurt to try that)
Door to door guys tend to say anything that might get you to signup, You should get it automatically if you are on the 8/2 plan.

I didn't take him up on his offer because the letter didn't mention any rate increases and didn't want to somehow opt out of what could be a different offering with the upgrade letters.

Also, did anyone in the Redmond area get a door-to-door sales pitch from a Comcast rep offering a speed upgrade with new phone service? I'm wondering if because I didn't agree to that offer I got taken off the Blast upgrade list.

I saw that it was available for my zip code so I called and asked and they set it up. I'm just wondering if it's worth the expense.

My actual sustained speeds after PowerBoost are 17.3mbps(mega bits per second) down and 2.2mbps up.
