Re: NY TV Franchise List #2

Hello,

Does anyone know the state of affairs for FiosTV and Syracuse, NY? Fios is being installed in the area now, but as far as I know there is not TV support. You would think with the data center being located in Syracuse, local officials would be supportive of FiosTV. Anyone know where things stand/an ETA?

Thanks so much!

So far, there is no Fios TV North of Westchester and Rockland counties.

I would recommend asking any Verizon workers you see what the status of the video hub office (VHO) is. There will be no Fios TV until the the VHO is ready.

Thanks For the reply. So is this not a VHO?

If not, do they have to build a whole new facility or can they add to this one?

It's not a VHO. It's a customer service office, meaning the people you talk to when you call FIOS. There will be no FIOS TV in Syracuse for at least the next year or so.

Sigh, very depressing news. Thanks for the help. Perhaps a Verizon tech can post what the status of an upstate/central NY VHO is. FiOS has been in parts of Syracuse since 2005

I am "lucky" enough to serve on a CATV Commission in NY. In general, the best external indicator for you of getting FIOS TV in an area will be the announcement of a VHO. VZ has to get the zoning permits, build it, staff it, and connect it; and that will not happen in total secrecy. Plus, VZ likes to make a press release when they decide to bring TV to a metro area.

Has Verizon annouced the building of a VHO for other areas? I don't remember seeing any. Also, is the VHO in Syracuse going to require the construction of a new building, or just a "room" in an existing building?

They've announced a VHO in Pittsburgh. I have no details about VZ's facilities in Syracuse.

Anyone, if you live in Syracuse and see a Verizon truck, please ask the driver for info on the Video Hub Office that is going to be built in Syracuse.

No discussions planned for the Town of Brookhaven for the remainder of 2007. Verizon is too busy with all their other discussions and the BS that they have to deal with from Cablevision. Go onto Islip.TV and get a load of the lawyers talking at the Town of Islip hearing.
