Re: [Equipment] Can not login at 192.168.15.100

Thanks for the quick reply....

If I have this setup

Internet ---> RTP300 ----> Wireless Router.
( The wireless desktop doesn't get access to the internet, seems it would have to be wired connected to the RTP300 to gain access to the internet. RTP is pingable at 192.168.15.1 and I can login as admin, admin. Just can't browse the internet. RPT get automatically an IP from NETprovider and acts as a DCHP serving ip address to the Wireless router will is set up similarly.

If

I do this
Internet ----> Wireless Router ---> RTP300 .

I have internet service at the desktop but can't get the RTP300 on 192.168.15.1 only at 192.168.100.1 Now when I browse the latter address I get the login-password input text boxes, BUT when I enter admin, admin, it says bad username. So I can't configure the RTP in this setup as I have no access.

I can configure the RTP in the other scenario but don't have internet access.

Damn if I do and damn if don't --- a really pain swapping the routers to do maintenance or config changes.

I have taken you advice and contacted Vonage,let's see what they say.

Re: [Equipment] Can not login at 192.168.15.100

Your problem is probably that you are using the same IP subnet (192.168.15.0/24) for both routers. Cascaded routers can not function that way.

Go back to this connection scheme:

Internet ---> RTP300 ---> Wireless Router ---> PC

Leave the RTP300 set to its factory defaults (LAN interface=192.168.15.0/24) and setup your Wireless Router to use a LAN IP of 192.168.1.1 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 (actually, you can use any IP subnet except 192.168.15.x).

You can also use this connection scheme with the different subnets:

Internet ---> Wireless Router ---> RTP300
|
+---> PC

but you would need to be able to access the RTP300 to be able to allow configuration from the WAN interface which will be more difficult for you since you do not seem to have the capability to use your PC with a wired ethernet connection.

The image below which depicts my network shows that you can indeed use Vonage routers behind other routers:

The only restriction is that the Vonage router(s) can not use the same LAN subnet as the internet gateway router(s) (and the same rule applies when using the Vonage router as the internet gateway with a cascaded wireless router behind it).

In my case both of my internet gateway routers use a LAN subnet of 192.168.1.0/24, the Vonage/Motorola VT2442 uses a LAN subnet of 192.168.11.0/24, and the Vonage/Linksys RTP300 uses a LAN subnet of 192.168.12.0/24. As long as you do not have a subnet conflict, all of the routers can communicate quite easily with each other.

Perhaps this Cisco document will help you to understand IP subnets.
