I'm guessing it's an "away status" notice for your buddies to see. I'd try it out, but am too chicken , wondering about message persistence, and wondering how to remove/change it once entered.

Maybe you use it if you want to send the same message to all of your buddies at the same time? Once you click on the dots a box opens up that allows you to type a message in it.

Here's what I've been able to figure out/find out. Enter text into the box, this briefly displays on the "Buddy Line" for your buddies to see, and also appears on your user page under a heading of "What were you doing."

Both the info on the buddy line and the info on your user page is only visible to buddies.

To change what you're "doing" simply click on the interface again. To remove any info delete and leave blank.

Some minimal requirements are necessary ?
I tried with some user accounts that I very rarely use (for testing only) and they can't see anything...

It just displays a message for buddies to see.

I like it but i'll be hard pressed to think of a message that will apply to all of my buddies, could it be tweaked (it would be nice) so that i can send it just to 2, 3, 4 etc ?

you don't have to entertain them. What about a link to a crazy site you've just discovered.. or do what the mods have been doing with it for two weeks, and just write stuff like this (giveaway messages have been removed):

Well, I swear that nothing happened when I clicked on it yesterday but today I get what everyone else is seeing (go figure).

Now I just need to decide how (or if) to use it.

Click on the text again and it should open the editing box. Save it with no text (that's what I did).

It's too late for that..it's stuck in my profile forever now..
