To people desperate for money it is. Rip up 50 pounds and you got yourself 150+ payday. Not bad. That'd be a 30 HR work week at minimum wage after taxes. 30 x $7.00 = 210 less 30 percent and you got 150. |

Depending on the size of the cable, it could weigh around 2-3 pounds per foot. A 600 pair cable could weigh almost 4 per. The average span between poles is about 160 feet.

It's a lot more than you think. I do retrofit work that often means I take out old copper A/C equipment and pipes, plus duct work, old steel gas lines etc. We can make a few hundred dollars or more on all the old stuff we pull out and that's not even trying that hard. If you were to get a hold of a lot of wire you have to take all the plastic insulation off to get the most money but after that it's worth a lot. Even if you don't bother to do that it's still a lot. A large amount of BX cable we took out netted about $30 and you'd never expect it to be that much. |
