said by JeepMatt :Any thoughts?? Ken, I know you said you "do" experience it - but I don't think i'll be able to put up with it. I've been macro-blocked to death already. Most of the pixelization reports are from SA CableCard users, but as I noted, the TivoHD still exhibits intermittent pixelization which lasts a quarter of a second -- anywhere from 0 to 10 times per hour -- due to driver issues. It's not in the live or recorded signal since I don't see it again when I hit rewind or instant replay. I also see it occasionally on the menus when the Tivo is doing background processing.
If you are very picky about such things, you may want to wait until Tivo fixes that with a software update. Over the phone, Tivo is telling customers that fix will be available within a few weeks. That said, I can understand not wanting to pay $25 for Verizon to install those CableCards, find oneself unsatisfied with the intermittent pixelization, return the box, only to buy again after the software fix, requiring another $25 install. By waiting, you also increase the probability that your FiOS service area will have MCARDs, cutting the CableCard fee in half.
For me, the benefits of the TivoHD (and 5x the storage capacity) over the Motorola DVR more than outweighs the disadvantage of having a few, quarter-second instances of pixelization every hour. And Tivo has assured me that issue will be fixed soon.
Note the Tivo Series3 does not suffer from this intermittent pixelization -- as its drivers are far more mature -- but it's more than twice the price. You also get better picture quality on SD and HD channels when you use native option, an option not available on the Motorola boxes. |

Maybe i'll go ahead with it anyway - and just put the Tivo in the bedroom until any kinks get worked out. -- "ONE team - ONE city - ONE dream!!" |

Tivo just released another software update for the TivoHD today. We'll see how it goes. |

| Thanks for the heads-up Ken.
I just checked it out over on tivocommunity.com - some folks are now reporting no blocking.
Maybe i'll set mine up before Monday so I'm sure to get the software download. -- "ONE team - ONE city - ONE dream!!" |

1 edit | That's great news Ken. I'll most likely pick it up tomorrow - let it download the software updates - and then let it rest until Monday morning when VZ comes.
I was checking out Tivocommunity - and it looks like most FIOS and Motorola card-using customers were fixed. |

It was reported on AVS that the recent update from TIVO fixed the pixelation problem.
Now I am considering making the switch as well. |

| reply to knarf829 I've got my TivoHD arriving on Monday and the cablecard(s) install for Thursday.
I did read about the macroblocking issues, but I thought they were only affecting certain cable cards like the SciAt ones and not the Motorola models.
At any rate, I've used Tivo before and am confident they'll fix the bug in a timely manner. They've already gotten 2 updates out for the TivoHD, and it hasn't been out that long, so they are at least patching them relatively quick.

They've already gotten 2 updates out for the TivoHD, and it hasn't been out that long, so they are at least patching them relatively quick. The problem was only 'serious' on Scientific Atlanta CableCards. Many users of Scientific CableCards suffer from constant pixelization. Thankfully, Verizon doesn't use Scientific Atlanta CableCards; they use Motorola CableCards.
Before the last software update, my TivoHD exhibited intermittent pixelization anywhere from 0-10 times per hour (an average of 5 times per hour) on FiOS. This pixelization lasted a fraction of a second and usually only affected part of the screen. With the new TivoHD software update released last night, that is completely gone. I have yet to see pixelization on any channel since the update. |

| Today's me big TIVO day -
Question - has anyone been able to still use their Harmony remote with a Tivo??
I can't say i'm really fond of the Tivo HD controller.
I have a Harmony 676. -- "ONE team - ONE city - ONE dream!!" |

2 edits | reply to JeepMatt I use my Harmony 720 with the TivoHD. In the Harmony remote setup program, just type in "Tivo" for make and then "Series3" for model.
I stuck the Tivo menu, Aspect button, and Thumbs +/- buttons on the LCD. I set the menu button to bring up the Now Playing list.
To enable 30-sec skip on the Tivo for the |-> button (regardless of remote), enter the following while watching a recorded show: Select-Play-Select-3-0-Select. By default, it skips to end.
When fast forwarding, pressing the |-> skips to the next tick. |

| I'm now good to go! My tech got called to help out another tech ironically down the street from me.
The standard STB I got is up and running - I moved my HD-DVR upstairs to the bedroom - and the Tivo w/ cable cards is now working with all channels!
It did take a bit to get the cable cards authorized and for Tivo to download all the guide data.
Since the Tivo allows you to pass channels at native resolution - so far things look good.
Also, I haven't seen any pixellation either. Crossing my fingers.
Now it's time to go give some programs a thumbs up! -- "ONE team - ONE city - ONE dream!!" |

1 edit | Yes, I got two of the S cards - SHE had a couple tries at getting the correct ID's off the screen - but all in all, the cable card part took 30 minutes tops.
It was her first CC install - but she was a champ!

| SO far - awesome results with the Tivo!
This native resolution pass-through is great.
It knows ESPN-HD is sent at 720 - so it doesn't have to worsen it by upconverting to 1080i like the Moto box did.
My PQ is vastly improved with the Tivo HD. -- "ONE team - ONE city - ONE dream!!" |
