Re: updates plz.

Sorry, but what do you mean by "post in direct"?

My POP connection has been "dead" for 53 hours now.

I finally reached a Tier 2 AT&T rep in Dallas (instead of India!) who had the decency to tell me They Have No Idea When all email accounts will be restored, that the outage involves multiple servers/routers. She said they'd been instructed to say within 48 hours, but that I should not be too optimistic. While they have been able to restore some of the earlier disconnects, more disconnects like mine keep sprouting up. She said the email outages began a week ago when they upgraded to Microsoft's SSL requirements.Apparently, I am at the tail-end of this week-long domino effect, but am far from alone this massive outage.

He's talking about the AT&T Direct forum here, which is staffed by official AT&T/ASI high level techs.
»/speak/sbcdire···A%3D%3D?

Note that AT&T Direct is a private forum so only you and the AT&T techs can see your thread.

Make sure you put your DSL phone number in the post.

Finally, don't reply to your AT&T Direct post until one of the techs has replied first. They look for unanswered threads so if they see any replies they may bypass yours, thinking someone else is helping you.

Well, I'm certainly confused now! This explanation sounds like they're putting you into the group that I thought you were a part of in my first post to this thread. But your subsequent posts seemed to indicate that your situation was unique. From the reports in this forum and others, that problem with the SSL servers is resolved so I don't think phone support understands your issue. Or I don't.

thanks for the at&t direct link -- will post there

I'm confused too because "the so slow......" post seemed benign compared to zero access to email. I'd take slow access in a heartbeat after being without for 3 days! I noticed "slow" loading/refreshing of the At&T web inbox intermittently over the past year, but didn't complain.

Do you mean a free yahoo email account or gmail? I do have one of each and have been using gmail for time-sensitive items during the past 2 days. But I get a lot of work-related and personal business emails at the pacbell domain and am upset that I cannot read any that have come in since Thursday noon, not to mention messages from friends who may assume I'm being rude by not responding.

No, I mean you can get your sbcglobal.net email via the web interface. You can do this from any computer to get to your email.
Just go to:
enter your full username@sbcglobal.net as the Yahoo! ID,
and your POP3 password.

Since this is a web interface, nothing is downloaded; in other words once your normal POP3 service is working, all your messages will still be transferred. This is thus a good way to delete Spam without wasting time having it downloaded by your normal email client.

That's the way I've always checked email remotely -- but it hasn't worked from any from any PC that I've tried since Thursday. Just times out and says Error Code 5.

Gave my password to the AT&T tier 2 rep in Dallas today and even she couldn't view my email in either webmail or Outlook Express from a central AT&T terminal.

Since other AT&T subscribers in my area are able to access their messages, why can't someone reroute my messages from wherever my account is stuck in AT&T cyberspace?

How often are you checking your mail? Do you have it set to check mail faster then every 10 minutes?

Some folks get Error Code 5 when they are checking from multiple locations within a 10 minute interval, say like from a blackberry, a PC, and/or webmail. Try increasing the interval to say 20 minutes and see if that helps.

Now AT&T says it is an isolated event and they assigned a yahoo trouble ticket! Today Tier 2 guy in San Ramon said outage is over in this area and thinks the glitch is with the yahoo server. Hopefully yahoo tech support will get back to me in the standard 24-48 hr window.

The end of an era! ("Era" Code 5, that is)

Sometime in the past 2 hours while I was out, some wonderful human being fixed whatever was causing my POP3 to hang on the Yahoo server. Both webmail and OE are once again operational after ~5.25 long days of being locked out of my inbox.

Re: pop.att.yahoo.com Mail sloooooooow

I've been patient on this issue, figuring that 1) they are aware and will get it sorted out.

2) webmail still works, so its ok..

but man, its been 7 days. so David, I just posted in the direct forum... any help you can give will be appreciated.

Thanks

It's been slow here on the Central Coast for awhile now again too.

Yep, last two days I've been getting a lot of server timeout errors in Eudora when it tries to check for mail. But you can check 2 seconds later and it's fine.

It doesn't seem to be limited to business hours, though, which is usually when the Yahoo servers fall down.

Is AT&T doing to dump Yahoo and provide decent email service, or should I just give up and blow off AT&T altogether?
