[TWC] Milwaukee - Did we just get a speed upgrade?

I have just now noticed with Road Runner Extreme, I am getting 15 Mbps / 1 Mbps.

Did Time Warner just upgrade the Milwaukee division? I am in Kenosha.

I think it's upgraded as well my upload is way higher than 60KB it's around double now. My download wasn't so fast but I need to change registry settings for more than the 8Mb settings it's at.

I'm with Poud. I've got residential, and just did a bunch of speed testing last night (and wrote a review of RR complaining of slow U/L speeds recently)...

Was: 5 Megs down, 360k up
Now: 7 Megs down, ~500k up

I'm pretty excited about the jump in UL speed, as RR was just getting killed on this compared to FIOS or even the DSL crowd...

...maybe I have to compliment them and edit my review...

Cheers!!!!

File size transferred : 29.5 MB (30937448 bytes)
Total time taken : 16.97 seconds (16969 milliseconds)
Throughput : 1823.0 KB/sec [Kilobyte-per-second]
= 1.82 MB/sec [Megabyte-per-second]
= 14584.0 Kbps [Kilobit-per-second]
= 14.58 Mbps [Megabit-per-second]

This is with SE WI Turbo/Premium speeds.
Its putting a rather high load on my 170mhz router...55% CPU in use when tossing this much traffic....
heh.

Speed test to Atlanta

Speed test to Chicago

I want to also add that I'm seeing the new speeds. Both Speed tests were done from the Speekeasy site. I do have the RR Turbo package for an extra $9.95 a month.

However, I'm not seeing the new download, and I know why. I have a 6+ year router that I know I need to replace. This is the only router I have ever had, going back to when I lived in Zion, IL and using AT&T's @home service.

Link is here if you are interested in seeing some old hardware.

But, I am seeing the new upload speed, and that is great news. Once I get a newer router, I'll be very happy!

Thank you Time Warner / Road Runner.

How much more exactly is RR Turbo/Extreme or whatever it's called, and would the speeds be 15/1?

They had a promotion going on when I signed up in July - standard service was $30/month for 12 months, and turbo was $40/month for 12 months.

Whatever you're paying now, if you want to sign up for their Turbo service, it will be $10 more a month. I think it's worth it.

Here are the new speeds for Time Warner's Milwaukee division:

Standard: 7 Mbps / 512 Kbps
Turbo: 15 Mbps / 1 Mbps

Turbo is actually just a little more than twice as fast, for $10 more.

What is this "Extreme" that people are talking about? Is there a class above "Turbo" in the Milwaukee area?

Turbo or extreme are one in the same.

15MB/1MB for $10 more per month ($39 total) now.

You sure did. "Standard" users are 7Mbps down / 512kbps up now! and 15Mbps/1Mbps for turbo folks. (I didn't even have to reboot my modem).

Watch for new marketing strategies. The "lite" 768kbps RR is going to be promoted more as a cheaper option, and a moderate speed 2Mbps tier will be part of some bundles. Those are the "hooks", then you "upgrade" in smaller increments. (Website not yet updated).

A little "response to competition" from AT&T

Oh BTW - for Milwaukee users, an on-network speedtest:

speedtest.wi.rr.com

Simple Java based thing - in case the big Internet sites can't keep up with the faster tiers!
