Wow I do need to cancel my Consumer Reports subscription. They should stick to things they have a clue about. |

| reply to zteardrop They should stick to things they have a clue To be fair, they are not recommending to the type of people that participate in this forum. Similarly, their automobile ratings are not intended as advice for the Indy 500 drivers. -- AT&T dsl; Westell 2200 modem/router; SuSE 10.1; firefox 2.0.0.5 |

| reply to danny9 so what really happened is the day before Consumer Reports was set to do tests, all the employees received a mysterious free copy of Trend Micro PC-cillin with a lifetime license.
along with it came a letter asking for their "unbiased" judgement. -- Hike up your skirt a little more, and show your world to me. |

| reply to VirusXIII How are they going to rate ZA once it drops Kaspersky engine which it probably will soon as AOL already has done.
That is just awful that they could claim TrendMicro was the best. And put McAfee ahead of Norton? Symantec is much better these days but McAfee is still awful. I think they are probably right though about Counterspy. -- "The same ferocity that our founders devoted to protect the freedom and independence of the press is now appropriate for our defense of the freedom of the internet. | reply to VirusXIII There was a time when I used to look forward to reading the reviews in this magazine. That was before I became involved with computers and digital cameras. Since then, I often wonder why I placed so much credence and confidence in what was written there.
While I'm sure that ConsumerReports.org does not in any way alter or skew their data, I can't help but think whether or not their readers actually get to use any but the one brand of (fill in the blank) software they comment on.
As for my own experience with several of the most popular security applications, most all of which are included in the OP's results graphic, one look at the Task Manager and the resource hog that Trend products are cinched the deal for me, in a heartbeat! |

To each their own. I don't run suites anymore on any of my family's or relatives machines, but when I did run and recommend suites, ran Trend, I had very positive things to say about them. It's been 2 years since I used them personally however.
I've seen horror stories with Norton and McAfee, so I haven't recommended them in many, many years.

I'm going to guess end-user factors; GUI, suite integration, tech support are weighted alot more than than pure detection ability. |
