| More misleading advertising from Kaspersky 7
 Kaspkersky misleading consumer... again |
Today the new KIS/KAV 7 release came out, and ofcourse it comes as no surprise that Kaspersky continues with its misleading advertising campaign against all its competitors most notably Symantec.
Ofcourse no mention of the fact that their as** got kicked by NIS anti-phishing protection.
Also, no mention that they dont have any online transaction features at all. |

@telstra.net | OK, so it's official.
You work for Symantec - nothing hideous about that, anyway. It was about time Symantec did some astroturfing too. |

BTW, I yet have to see that Russian mafia company offering a free online AV with a removal tool like their counterparts do. |

Seriously, though - does anyone trust advertising from any company? No matter the product all promise to be perfect - the best of any available. Didn't it used to be illegal for any vendor to directly name a competitor in their ads on TV? Perhaps we need to apply this to all forms of advertising. -- Team Discovery

There are big differences between advertising puffery and outright deception. "Works better" is puffery. "Guaranteed to grow hair" is deceptive. Despite the suggestion here, some manufacturers are more guilty of it than others, as working on the advertising campaigns for many Fortune 500 companies demonstrated.
There are clear standards against deceptive advertising depending on the medium (TV is much stricter than print). In the US, the FTC follows up on the most severe abuses. However, if this was on the product box, it might not even be considered advertising but product labeling.
Comparative advertising is permitted in many, but not all, countries. If Symantec thinks this is an issue, they won't waste their time posting here as was suggested. They'll file a complaint.
This is just Kaspersky's acknowledgement that Symantec is the market leader in an attempt to get into the mass market consideration set. They have everything to gain by doing this, while market leaders rarely feel the need to acknowledge those below them. |
