| PPPoE settings for Linksys BEFSX41 on SS4200 Anyone?
I reset the 4200 to bridge mode and changed my BEFSX41 router to PPPoE with the bellnet user/password combo...
...but only half of the websites load properly. Some load a portion of their content, others load the first page (index) and the links don't work...some sites don't answer at all. And yet others work perfectly.
Somehow I don't think this is a DNS problem. Does anyone know what the exact PPPoE settings should be to work with Bell's dsl?
Many thanks! |

  mtu maybe
@videotron.ca | double check the MTU in the routers settings, should be 1492 if i recall right. |

| Thanks but when I enable the MTU (to 1492) as before, I get connected, my BEFSX41 status shows me an outside IP address, DNS everything looks fine...but now there's zero web connectivity.
With MTU disabled, as mentioned in my original post, I get limited connectivity with only some sites showing up.
In case it matters, this is a Bell Business DSL account; my username is not b1xxx but xxx@bellnet.ca. Could there be different settings for bellnet accounts?
For example, on the BEFSX41 PPPoE settings page, do I fill in "Service name" "Host name" or "Domain name"? And what about "connection" should it be on demand or keep alive?
I've tried various combinations but IT DOESN'T WORK!
Thanks again anyone for help! |

| Yes, the router is giving each PC its proper IP address (192.168.x.xx) ...and the LAN is working fine. The router is getting a proper external IP (and DNS's) from Bell. As a matter of fact IPCONFIG even reveals the Bell domain to each PC. So I think each PC is accessing the web properly.
The problem is that with MTU enabled at 1492 I get zero net resolution as if it can't find or resolve the DNS. With MTU disabled I get haphazard responses, some addresses resolve perfectly, others only a few lines, some only the first index page and nothing else, and others simply don't resolve at all.
I've tried defining DNS addresses manually (both Bell and others) in the router settings but that hasn't helped either.
Maybe there's more to MTU...either the 1492 value isn't correct or do the PC's have to have their MTU's adjusted too?
And again I'm tempted to ask whether there are different settings for Bellnet (the Bell business DSL) and Sympatico DSL? |

| After leaving a similar question on the Linksys site the Linksys people recommended I upgrade the firmware...and everything now works properly.
A different problem with a DLink router was also recently resolved by a firmware update.
So the moral of the story...always see if there's a firmware update which may fix your problem.
Cheers! |
