I've received a US mail from Vonage indicating I was a former Sunrocket customer and I can jump to Vonage with a promo. I have never received mailers from Vonage in the past. |

Yeah, "LawMage" said as much back on Page 2, citing the Toysmart case. Still, that case rested in part on child protection. I see your link (I only read the Google cached version to avoid possible PDF infection) centers mostly on security breaches rather than violations by the provider itself, but they do get into privacy policy issues about page 24 or so.
It's good to see violators are held accountable in a few circumstances, although it does seem to center more around "false advertising" than any real, accountable set of rules for abiding customer privacy or adhering to a "privacy policy" -- whatever that actually is. In other words, the "privacy policy" isn't necessarily any more meaningful or enforceable than a banner on the web site reading "we have the shiniest equipment". It seems to be treated as merely another form of published ad or promise. So I hope that's enough. Thanks for the link...

| reply to SR_USER bankrupt or not, I believe a company has to operate under the policies it sets forth unless it a) sends out a modification of policy or b) ceases to operate as that company. if b occurs and you get spam, then you track down the -individual- in that company who sold it and procecute under the CAN spam act. It would really be no different than suing the Spam King. -- "WHEN THE LAUGH TRACK STARTS THEN THE FUN STARTS!" |

2 edits | reply to dmolavi There was lots of proof and documentation in this forum. Many of us had unique email addresses for Sunrocket only and began receiving crazy spam on those private email addresses - all at the same time.

3 edits | reply to SR_USER said by SR_USER :So you're saying everyone in your neighborhood got one, and only you another neighbor had SR? So everyone in your neighborhood got one saying their a former SR customer? I check with 4 other neighbors that don't even know what Sunrocket is. We all got the same one. I did with it what I do with all the stuff I get in the US Mail I never asked for, I threw it away. And yes just myself & one neighbor had Sunrocket. But I normally get 1 or 2 a month from Vonage anyway, so I didn't think anything different. I have never had Vonage either, so not a former customer of theirs. SO maybe somehow someway THEY got a hold of a mailing list from Sunrocket. Who knows, I don't |

1 edit | reply to dmolavi they might of sold it, maybe their system was hacked into, maybe Sherwood sold it or gave it away, who really knows, but I am not wrong in my case, Mine was address to me as were all of my neghbors addressed to them. So they might of sold them, but in MY case, I think it was unique timing as the rest of my neighbors didn't know what Sunrocket or VOIP is. So as of right now, for me, I havn't been contacted by anyone yet. -- donmoores.com |

Only myself & 1 neighbor had Sunrocket but everyone on the street got them. So maybe it was just unique timing that former Sunrocket customers PLUS others on the street got them. bzzt, wrong. mine was addressed to me, named spelled as it was on my SR invoices, and addressed me as a former SR customer w/ a link to a page on vonage's site for former SR customers.

| reply to SR_USER Yep, I got one on Saturday. A$$holes. I'm going to call Sherwood today and have a nice "discussion" with them regarding this flagrant violation, as well as ignoring my opt-out requests and continuing to have "going out of business" emails sent to me, SIX times. -- Get your Gizmo Admin Passwords, Unlock Instructions, and How To use your Gizmo with other providers at »gizmopasswords.blogspot.com NukedGallery.net |
