Re: SunRocket Sold Mailing Info!!

No prob, thats exactly what I'll be doing.
Thanks though!

If anybody else is interested, the law that I was looking at is Computer Tampering in the fourth degree (New York).

Every state has their own variant so take a look if you want control of your adapter.

However, SunRocket does not sell, trade, or disclose personally identifiable information to third parties for unrelated marketing purposes.
The key bit here has to be the last four words. If a company can no longer provide you with the service you need and they pass your information on to another company that could provide that service, then is this defined as an "unrelated marketing purpose"? I suspect not. Many people would be happy to hear about alternative service providers, especially those with special offers.

Since whether or not they violated their TOS depends on definitions, you'll need to look at that sentence in context.

"...and to facilitate the marketing of SunRocket products and services. However, SunRocket does not sell, trade, or disclose personally identifiable information to third parties for unrelated marketing purposes"

The "unrelated marketing" is referring to marketing that is unrelated to "Sunrocket products and services". SR *has* no products and services at this time and Vonage is clearly not a SR product.

Just got my Vonage envelope in the mail today, too, but man...........talk about horrible timing.

It's just a little too late......(though I wouldn't have gone w/ Vonage anyway, due to my belief that they're hosed once the court proceedings........uhhhh.........proceed.)

I doubt that Sunrocket actually sold the list to anyone. At this point, I would think Sunrocket would try to hold on to as many customers as they can once the Teleblend break off is done. That way the information is worth a lot more money than just direct mail.

This was probably an ex-employee trying to make a buck.

I got a letter today asking me to sign up vonage. I was not a member of Sr/Tb or Sherman.

I think they also sold our email addresses too. I used a special address for SR and about 3-4 weeks ago I started to get bunch of SPAMS.

Just got my mailer!

Called Vonage, and, asked how they had acquired my mailing information, as I have never done business with them, however, I am, as the mailer states, a former Sunrocket Customer.

"Oh, Sir, Vonage has a new exciting offer for former sunrocket..."

Cut her off.... "I asked, how you got my mailing information, Ma'am, please. I'd also like to know how you knew I specifically was a former Sunrocket Customer."

"Oh, I can transfer you to our marketing department if you like."

"Please, thank you for your assistance."

Anyhoo, I left a voicemail. Hopefully, someone will respond, sometime soon.

I got the same snail mail and promptly filed it. They have their nerve selling my information to Vonage.

Yep, I got one on Saturday. A$$holes. I'm going to call Sherwood today and have a nice "discussion" with them regarding this flagrant violation, as well as ignoring my opt-out requests and continuing to have "going out of business" emails sent to me, SIX times.

I got one in the mail yesterday. BUT then I checked with most of the other neighbors and they also got them. Only myself & 1 neighbor had Sunrocket but everyone on the street got them. So maybe it was just unique timing that former Sunrocket customers PLUS others on the street got them.

bzzt, wrong. mine was addressed to me, named spelled as it was on my SR invoices, and addressed me as a former SR customer w/ a link to a page on vonage's site for former SR customers.

our info got sold.

they might of sold it, maybe their system was hacked into, maybe Sherwood sold it or gave it away, who really knows, but I am not wrong in my case, Mine was address to me as were all of my neghbors addressed to them. So they might of sold them, but in MY case, I think it was unique timing as the rest of my neighbors didn't know what Sunrocket or VOIP is. So as of right now, for me, I havn't been contacted by anyone yet.

So you're saying everyone in your neighborhood got one, and only you another neighbor had SR? So everyone in your neighborhood got one saying their a former SR customer?

I check with 4 other neighbors that don't even know what Sunrocket is. We all got the same one. I did with it what I do with all the stuff I get in the US Mail I never asked for, I threw it away.
And yes just myself & one neighbor had Sunrocket. But I normally get 1 or 2 a month from Vonage anyway, so I didn't think anything different. I have never had Vonage either, so not a former customer of theirs. SO maybe somehow someway THEY got a hold of a mailing list from Sunrocket. Who knows, I don't

SR was selling or leaking our email and phone numbers a long time ago.

proof or it didn't happen.

i never had any instances of unexplained spam (email, snail mail, phone) that could be traced to SR.

There was lots of proof and documentation in this forum. Many of us had unique email addresses for Sunrocket only and began receiving crazy spam on those private email addresses - all at the same time.

It's just the kind of company we're dealing with. Nothing was sacred. Keep an eye on your credit card statements for any mysterious charges in coming months.
