said by ZipZilla :wow, you got them to eat the $5 rip-off charge. i wonder if they'll do that for changeovers or just new lines of service like yours Charter charges you $10 if you don't have cable TV and Comcast charges you $15. $5 is a deal. |

You know I am just telling you what they told me.
Reps do give out wrong info.
If they did I will post it here..
Hope it helps.

| New bill came out today, here is how it looks with the $5 charge. Other observations: ZERO taxes and ZERO fees. YES! |

| reply to bluepoint951 I have a couple of questions. I am in the area that SAFA is being offered so I was going to call about it because I want to switch to Viatalk VOIP with SAFA. However, I see that someone posted to move your phone # before going to SAFA since the line must be active. But if I currently have DSL and a local phone line with AT&T, won't porting my current phone # cutoff my DSL service? How exactly do I go about doing this? Also, is SAFA only offered on the 3.0 and above speeds? |

Just follow the procedure outlined in the »AT&T Southeast Forum FAQ »Can I change my service from dynamic to static IP (or visa versa)? FAQ article to add it back on. I have SAFA on the 6 Mbps plan and I am showing the static IP as a $0.00 addon. I haven't tried to add it on yet (dynamic is fine for me) but it should work. |

1 edit | reply to bluepoint951 I downgraded to SAFA today. It was very easy I asked for SAFA and the only thing the rep did was let me know about the lack of 911 service. No trying to sell another package. It was quick and painless. |

1 edit | reply to bluepoint951 Fastaccess DSL cust. - want to go to SAFA and CallVantage
Ok, - believe me I've searched. And talked to CallVantage and Bellsouth (they really haven't integrated into AT&T yet) support people, but I still haven't got a straight answer.
I am currently a bundled BellSouth customer who is using FastAccess Xtreme 3.0 DSL. I'm going through a divorce and want to cut costs.
So, I'm looking at getting Bundle 97 and getting a SAFA line and then signing on with AT&T CallVantage VOIP service. However, I would like to keep my current phone number. The CallVantage guy says if I order the SAFA line (is that really just the same as a "dry-loop"?) that then I can port my existing number to CallVantage. Things I have read here seem to conflict with that.
PLEASE, can anyone give me a straight answer on what steps I need to take to get to where I want to go: Bundle97 with CallVantage and same phone number.
Thanks, Mark |

My friend that changed his POTS line to CallVantage did this :
1. Changed Class of Service to 1FR and a Ringmaster Number 2. Changed the Main POTS number to Ringmaster. 3. Port out the Ringmaster to CallVanatage. 4. Change POTS line to SAFA.
Took him about 2 weeks; one thing to keep in mind is that the Change to 1FR RingMaster and the change of the Main Line Number to the RingMaster Number but be completed before LNP can begin, shouldn't take more than 2 business day to have that work done though. |

It looks like Stand Alone FastAccess is now called FastAccess DSL Direct.
It now looks like you can get any tier of FastAccess DSL without POTS.
I think that this FastAccess DSL Direct 768 for $19.95 is offered now because of the conditions imposed under the FCC merger agreement.

| That is pretty funny with the way it is written. It first of all states for "new customers only" then goes on to say that it may affect you discount if you are bundling services.
I wish these lawyer types could explain their own writing as how can you already have a bundled plan if you are a new customer per their definition??
Just goes to prove how ignorant people are in their writing skills. -- FWD#: 223611 |

Just goes to prove how ignorant people are in their writing skills. The "new customer" statement is for internet service. My brother has the Cell/POTS/TV bundle but no internet. If he were to take the new internet plan he would be considered a new internet customer and it would affect the discounts he is receiving on his present bundle. |

| Thanks for the clarification.. Maybe they should have written in their "for new internet customers only", so that dummies like myself would understand. -- FWD#: 223611 |

| reply to bluepoint951 Re: SAFA (Stand Alone FastAccess) - Confirmed today
First off I'll admit this is a little off topic. Today, I have 6.0 (former BS area) I have local calling from AT+T mostly only for business meetings at home. However given SAFA instead of Tel+DSL 6.0 I would opt for two SAFA 6.0 DSL lines plus some (free) voip service if such a beast exists for my 5-6 voice meetings a week. Would it be possible to get two 6.0 SAFA lines ? What would I need to make it appear to be a single 12/1 connection to my network? (links to some resources would be fine) What options, even computer based (mic/speakers) would be available to make the voice calls? Thanks. |
