sMURF join:2007-02-27 Toronto, ON 1 edit | Peer1 is junk It seems like every evening, I get packet loss when playing online games.
I'm not sure if the packet loss starts at 65.39.134.1, because TSI Marc has previously said "65.39.134.1 is configured to prioritise ICMP (ping) packets very low and it simply does not reply to all requests", so I can't get an accurate percentage of loss from it.
If it's 65.39.198.250 that's causing the problem, can TSI contact Peer1 and tell them to fix it? It's getting annoying. While playing I usually get spikes from 2% to 11% loss. |

 | reboot your modem? think that might help, would get you a new ip, unless yours is static. |

possible there is something on your machine thats causing spikes? bad NIC?
Hard to troubleshoot. |

TSI GabePremium,VIP join:2007-01-03 Chatham, ON kudos:2 | What you need to understand here is that it doesn't matter how long it takes for any router in the traceroute to reply except the last one, in fact they may not reply at all. What you are seeing here is how much time it takes the routers in the path to reply with an ICMP TTL Timeout packet which is not prioritized. What matters most to a router is to forward packets, not to reply to them.
Whats the IP you are getting 2% to 11% packet loss exactly? |

I don't think it's that IP itself that's having packet loss, because if it was, everyone who played on it would have loss, but they don't, it seems like I'm the only one. Just to note, I can see and "feel" the packet loss in game, I'm not just pinging the server with Ping Plotter and seeing loss. I'm getting packet loss before I reach the server (either hop 3, 4, 5, or 6), but I can't pinpoint it for the exact reason you just stated.
I also don't believe it's my computer and/or my equipment causing the loss, because as I said in my first post, it only happens in the evening/nights, rather than all the time or randomly throughout the day.
If anyone here has Unreal Tournament 2004 and wants to connect to 72.51.60.248:7777, tell me if you get any packet loss (press F6 or 'stat net' in the console). You probably won't see any packet loss until tonight though. Also, if your route is different than mine, you may not see it, in which case please post a traceroute. |

the only loss showing on that tracert is to 65.39.134.1 which has ICMP as low priority |

I have been having packet loss issues as well (and like sMURF, mainly in the evenings).
at 8:25 I ran a simple ping test to the IP given:
Ping statistics for 72.51.60.248: Packets: Sent = 100, Received = 98, Lost = 2 (2% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 21ms, Maximum = 28ms, Average = 22ms
The only game I play is Counter-Strike 1.6, and I notice that every few seconds I'll see the loss counter go from 0 to between 1-3 and then drop back down to 0. Kind of annoying at times, but I think the issue may be with the quality of my line.
My SNR goes down about 1-2dB in the evenings, and I do have a few CRC and HEC errors on my line. The pic shows an uptime of 4 days.
Edit: whoops, meant to ask if we can see your line stats sMURF |

So I can now confirm that the problem isn't my computer/modem/router or the server. I was just in the server and found someone who also uses TekSavvy Premium, and he was getting packet loss at the same time I was, and no one else was getting any loss. If anyone here wants to join that server now (or a ping test), go ahead, you'll see packet loss (if you're on TekSavvy premium).
Here's what Ping Plotter showed at 1:07pm:

And again at 9:26pm:
