| [Connectivity] How and why does this happen?
Whenever I go to a webpage that uses Google maps, my internet dies. Just dies. Nothing works. Sites don't load, AIM doesn't work, I can't ping, nothing. Then, a minute or two after I close the web browser, it starts working again on its own. Nothing changes.
How can this happen? And why? |

| some suggestions:
1. download latest java www.java.com 2. run your anti-spyware scan 3. post traceroute to maps.google.com 4. post ping results to maps.google.com 5. Try it again because i got there fine
*if all of that fails, try in safe mode w/networking to see if it's something on your pc |

| reply to theman23 It's probably a problem with your browser and Java/AJAX with google maps.
If I were you, nuke all instances of Java Runtime on your computer, then go to »www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp and grab the latest one.
What browser are you using? You could alternatively try a different one (Opera, Firefox, even Safari) and see whether that helps. You don't have to settle with just using one over the other, but this will narrow it down to either a problem with your browser or something greater. -- "Some people never see the light till it shines thru bullet holes." -Bruce Cockburn

2 edits | reply to theman23 Check your modem log for lost of sync errors. It may be that the high amount of packets google maps creates causes the modem or node to kick you off due to bad signal strength / quality. Post your modem signals and log so others can take a look (go to »192.168.100.1/ ).
Watch your modem lights the next time this happens. If don't see anything then try the modem logs at: »192.168.100.1/ . Look for recent time stamps, which are usually a good indicator of a modem reset / resync.
If the modem is not reseting then check your router (if you have one) and make sure your MTU and other settings are correct. I believe Vista has a flexible tcp/ip stack which shouldn't need any tweaks, so I doubt that is the source of your problems.
Just for diagnostics, run the line quality test at »/linequality and post your results.
Also, I don't believe google maps, microsoft live maps, or any other popular ajax site uses java. They all use javascript, which is a heck of alot more compatible then normal java (the one that runs on the sun java virtual machine). Java is not as widespread as it used to be simply because of the constant updates, slow loading, and overly restrictive security that requires expensive signing certificates.

Its possible your problem is related to DNS. (Like my issue.) |

Can someone please move this to the Belkin router forum? My router is a Belkin F5D7230-4. Thanks. |
