This goes out to all the Techs that visit this forums

Just because you go over to a house and a women answers the door. Doesn't mean that she doesn't know what she is talking about.

The tech came over today and told my wife that my modem power down over 2500 time since Thursday. That somebody must be doing it because the modem is fine and the line is fine. My wife laughed at him and very sarcastically said "thats what she does all day for entertainment.. Sit in front of the modem and unplug it."
If I wasn't at work I would had to tard smack him .

Edit: They ended up exchanging modems. So far so good.

2500???? You sure the tech wasnt joking? I mean, if you reset your modem once a minute, thats only 1440 resets in a 24 hour period

He wouldnt of swapped the modem if he was serious....

I am not a Comcast tech, but I can't begin to recount all the instances of equipment being unplugged from the power source, or connected to a power source that was connected to an outlet that the end user had manually turned off (or in some instances turned on and off repeatedly) that have been the root cause of service calls I have made.

Of course, the culprits were not always women, or even human. Power cords are a favorite toy for some cats, and I have a cat that has learned to turn power strips on and off (my guess is that he likes to watch the red light turn on and off).

It's unfortunate that you have been treated this way, and that you think most of us think/act that way. I'm sure he was referring to the poller and saw the modem losing sync quite often, but that does not mean its being unplugged.

I apologize Imwhite.. I'm just pissed off with getting the run around. I know there are quite a few of Tech people out there that know what they are doing... I'm not getting those.... so I'm generalizing.. and for that I apologize.

I don't quite see where this is an affront to women.

Did he say the SHE did it? Or that it was a womanly thing to do?

No sweat, I understand the frustration with reoccurring problems. Especially internet related.

BTW, those modem logs are normal.

Since the new modem has been installed it's reset 24 times.

How many times has it shown my modem reset?

24. I can send a technician back, is there a time or day you prefer?

Your signal stats are approaching the out of spec zone and may actually be migrating out of spec intermittenly which would cause the modem to lose sync.

Sounds like you still need some tech support..

How many splitters are there in the coax line leading to the modem ?

Can you eliminate any from the configuration ?

I had another tech come out last night and change out the splitters. I have 3 splitters in my system. The input goes to one splits from there, one leg goes to my T.V. which is split to go to my Telephony Modem. The then 2nd leg on the input splitter goes through a 3 way splitter which one leg is my internet and the others split to other portion of my house.

Frequency 609000000 Hz
Signal To Noise Ratio 34.1 dB
Power Level -10.8 dBmV This has improved since last night after the tech left. It was sitting at -11.6 for pretty much the whole night.

Upstream Value
Channel ID 4
Frequency 38000000 Hz
Power 43.0 dBmV (This was at 56.0 last night after the field tech left.)

the signal coming into the house from the street is -0.7 and then coming out of the leg of the splitter is -9.0.

@shawcable.net
upon closer inspection your wife is the problem

i suggest you smack her, and get her back to doing her job, which should consist of laundry, cooking, cleaning, and spitting out babies.

Actually my wife is pretty knowledgeable on tech stuff.. and plus I really don't want another child..

Well I suggest that you professional tech school these ones that are giving you a bad name. I have another tech at my house and he straight out came out and said he didn't believe that I'm having these issues. I actually had to explain to him that since he isn't seeing it doesn't mean it's not happening. After checking a few more things he is sending out the "Maintenance" crew.

I'm a Tech Rep myself and if I treated my customers the way I've been treated.. I wouldn't be in business and out of a job. Just like all the other big companies out there. They don't believe in customer service any more.. just the $$$$

I've been a member here since 2001.. and I don't have a lot of post. MY post count is 221. the only time I post is when and if I had a problem.

Tech was probably just saying if the modem kept losing sync he was not blaming the customer but that's why he replaced the modem.
Of course, replacing a modem is not always the right fix to a problem that a customer is having. It's just the easiest fix to make the customer feel he did something.
A complete check from the tap to the modem is a must do on every house visit.

Hey I am a Comcast tech. Your modem line should not be placed on a cascaded splitter. At most it should be on 1 splitter the splits no more than for times due to db loss. Your tech that came out to you the last time should have made sure this was so and yur telephony system should have a dedicated line all to it's self.

After checking a few more things he is sending out the "Maintenance" crew.
That's a euphemism for "I'm going on to the next job."

Every single tech that found nothing wrong with my computer or modem, but didn't check the drop, always said that they would "turn it over to maintenance." They would never give me the ticket number, and maintenance never talks to the customer, nor did maintenance ever come out.

I had to escalate it to the regional VP before maintenance replaced my drop. That was the problem.

So when the tech checks signals and tells you they are turning it over to maintenance, that's a load of crap. Also, this tech sees a 50-ish return power and doesn't do anything about it?

I had one guy who did not know what packet loss was. No wonder they don't know what to do. When I show them the DSLR graphs of packet loss, they look as if they are looking at Chinese poetry or something. I even tell the CSR to have the tech bring a laptop to see the packet loss - they never do. Most of the time they don't even know what the reason for the truck roll was.
