Re: XBOX 360 and FiOs(Actiontec M1424WR)

i just spent 4 hours dealing with this. i have called verizon and they are very little help. one rep knew of the issue but this was only after being routed around to queue after queue - so far we have had fios for a week and its been great this part just sucks. he was helpful and gave me the number for Verizon Encore? Called the Encore thing and after pressing buttons and being on hold it says "sorry your call can not be completed at this time" and then hangs up. i call the main number and i get run around in circles for 45 minutes at a time.

does anyone know what the hell is wrong with this company? does anyone know when this issue will be patched or fixed?

i have tried bridging a connection with linksys wrt150n and ddwrt running, creating a network with my mac, assigning static to the 360. nothing works. i dont have the option of hardwiring.

i also just got off the phone with VZ Fios Tech support again. This guy had NO CLUE about the issue. I asked if he had access to google and he said yes and I told him to type in "fios xbox" and click the first result (hooray google search results being #1 lol) he read this post and I believe he may have shat himself at that point. He conferenced actiontec rep into the convo. apparently they wont talk to any of us consumers according to the VZ tech. they will talk to and answer any questions while VZ is on the phone though. I asked some very specific questions:

**(summarized)**

Is this a known issue? Yes
Is there a patch out currently? No
When will the patch be out for this problem? Is there an ETA? Not sure and no ETA at this time.
How do I work around it? You will need a new router.

For me this means switching from coax to ethernet which will cause issues when fios tv rolls into town. Personally though I would rather use my Linksys with custom firmware than this POS from VZ. I am very happy with them speed and service wise. Unfortunately I am very displeased with the lack of knowledge and the fact that they are handing out this modem/router with known issues for something that a lot of their customers obviously own.

Hope this helps some.

Personally my last ditch effort when I get home is to use an extra netgear router and set it up as a wired bridge instead of wireless like my linksys. Anyone tried that? Any luck?

Umm…. how about no! People paid good money for the adapters. The solution is not to go spend more money. Actiontec needs to fix there routers. End of story. Don’t go buy anything else.

You solution applies to almost anything. If you waste enough money you can fix anything.

So are you telling me that if I plug in a wire that connects my ActionTec router and another router together, and then go downstairs and try to connect with my Xbox 360, it will work?

I connected a D-link wireless router into an open LAN port on the Actiontec MI424WR router. I then pushed the reset button on the d-link router it refreshed and got an ip address from the Actiontec router. It broadcast a wireless signal called jumpstart P1-99FDC(or something like that). I am now connected wirelessly. This worked for me anyway.

@verizon.net

Well I just hoped on the Verizon FiOS bandwagon from "Caulkmast" and was having trouble getting my 360 to work on the Action"suck" router.

Crap shoot is that I just sold my WRT54G last night and now after reading this thread, I shouldn't have.

That said, I think the only solution for me is going to be moving the 360 into my computer room, buying a HDTV monitor and hooking up my PC and my 360 to it and playing plugged in now.

Unless ActionTec releases a firmware upgrade that fixes this, this is a pretty nice train wreck they have on their hands.

Thansk for the info guys.

I have the same issues as you guys-only worse. I am actually runing a cat-5 cable directly to the back of the gateway and though I can connect i can only play for 10-15 minutes at most after which the gateway restarts itself.Any advice?

So what we are saying? To get the xbox 360 to work wirelessly, dont get the new adapter, get this? : »cgi.ebay.com/OFFICIAL-MS-XBOX-WI···ViewItem

incognito,

Apparently that is what people are saying. The MN-740 adapter (launched for the old XBOX) works. I have the old FIOS install when they first ran the ethernet run for you computer vice the new ALL coax. In another thread I read that if you have an ethernet drop that the new XBOX 360 adapter works fine wirelessly and that those users having issues have the straight coax run for internet/TV. Is this the case?

I have FiOS provided with a MOCA enabled ONT that I had provisioned to access the internet over CAT 5e cable. When I got my xbox 360, I temporarily ran CAT 5 to the xbox, forwarded the required ports, and it worked perfectly. Now I want to configure it wirelessly. After reading MANY forums on the compatibility (or lack thereof) of xbox and the actiontec, I figured a little research was in order!

incognoto,

I think the issue has never been between the XBOX 360 and a WIRED connection. I guess what I was getting at is that those that have Internet going through a CAT 5e drop vice the MOCA ONT are saying that connecting an XBOX wirelessly with an ONT configured for Ethernet is successful. In my case I don't have a 360 yet, but when I do I plan on using the wireless component. It looks like based on my FiOS setup I should have no issues.
