Sounds good.

None of you use any of the mentioned IPTV services? Or some unmentioned thing, as I was anything but thorough with that very brief and quick list

I don't. That's why I'm just gonna sit back and learn a little. I take it you are happy with Joost?

I'm fairly happy, but you have to use it to understand what it's about. It's slick software with a very nice interface and features tons of content already. There are ads, but not like the ads you're used to on TV.. they're maybe 10 second spots and are pretty infrequent and really not that disruptive. Trust me when I say that I *hate* ads, and ads make me skip TV entirely. I very rarely watch TV.. because quite honestly, if I'm going to watch a show, I'll download it off the web somewhere and watch it whenever I like, without ads, in the quality I choose. I can't put up with ads. They are far too intrusive and annoying.. having said that, Joost's ads are very tolerable.

Anyway.. Joost's loaded with content from all sorts of TV channels around the planet and includes many music TV channels, Comedy Central and so much more. Click that to see the official Joost guide to what's playing right now. Their library of offered content keeps growing rapidly, and although as far as I know, Joost has yet to offer full length movies, they have a ton of shows, music videos and other TV content on there already. You can pause playback at any time, browse channel lists, search the whole library of Joost offerings right from the main interface, and you can even add and use widgets, which are also included. You could, for example, be watching something on Joost, then start up the "chat" widget and see who else is watching the same thing you are. Right there, you could start a discussion, ask a question, whatever you like, with people who are watching the same thing you are currently.

Personally, I've never run into anybody who just so happened to be watching the same thing I was watching at the time I was watching.. and the explanation for this is simple. There is a lot of content, and "show times" for the different shows on Joost are not fixed. In other words, you can watch whatever you want whenever you want. Because this is so, chances of bumping into other people who happen to be watching what you're watching simply are slim.

You can check out channel and show descriptions, give shows ratings, etc. etc. It's a pretty advanced and ambitious idea, and if there is a single thing about Joost I'd have to point out as sorely lacking about the service it's the fact that there is zero HD content inside. If you watch stuff in full-screen mode (which is the default), you are likely to be less than pleased with the image quality you'll see. Loading of channels, however, is very fast. It takes a few seconds to load stuff up before it starts streaming and playing on your machine.

My descriptions can only go so far..

Wow! Thanks. After hearing all that, I'd love to check it out myself.

Thanks for the detailed description, btw.

BTW, there's one show I discovered last night that I thought was actually pretty funny. It's on VH1 and it's called "I hate my 30's". The humor is surprisingly good at times and made me laugh out loud more than once, and that's rare. I think of myself as a funny guy and I *love* to laugh, but it really is pretty rare that a TV show will actually make me laugh out loud.. at best, it will make me smile or smirk. This show actually had me laughing a few times, so in my book, they have to be doing *something* right

By the way: a big thing I failed to mention is the fact that Joost is still BETA software. Although in my experience, it is absolutely rock solid and has never crashed, I am simply pointing this out because, well, it makes sense to do so.

Another thing is that Joost, by the nature of the type of application it is and by how it works, has slightly steep system requirements. 1GB of RAM is recommended, a fast CPU is a must and it goes without saying that you can't stream all that content to your PC on a dial-up connection--you need broadband.

The official system requirements are on their website: »www.joost.com/systemrequirements.html

PHEW. You have NO IDEA how hard it was to find that page! I just surfed their site up and down and checked everywhere.. and eventually gave up. The way I found that system requirements page is by googling "joost system requirements". Crazy.. that's just bad :/

I looked at internetTV, SopCast and one other, can't remember, totally deleted everything on that one including the installer.
Right now my interest is catching an occasional game, my nephews live 2000 miles away and would like to be able to talk to them about their team, which until last year was bad enough they were never televised on the East Coast (Aints that the truth ).

I'm not paying for any super package, but if I can find a way... and maybe even catch some Juventis or Swedish league hockey...

Like I say, hoping to learn in this forum
