Firefox, NoScript... need hosts file manager?

The only times I've ever 'used' my HOSTS file is as a result of a redirect that hadn't updated. Once that was done, I removed the entry.

As I use Firefox/NoScript and other extensions... along with appropriate security apps... am I wrong in thinking that a modded HOSTS file is needed?
