So will our cost go down since they are taking away some channels. Or will it go up since it involves work for them to remove channels. LOL

August 10th, @11:53AM

Oddly enough, my bill did go down this month:

Last month:
Digipic 1000 + RR: $89.90
DVR: $9.95
Music Choice: $0.50
Program Guide: $0.50
Sports Tier: $2.95
Converters: 2 @ $7.62
Remotes: 2 @ $0.22

This month
Digipic 1000 + RR: $84.90
DVR: $9.95
Sports tier: $2.95
Converters: 2 @ $7.62
Remotes: 2 @ $0.22

Difference: -$6.00
I also got a mysterious $2.33 credit for service 7/22-8/04.

EDIT: According the the TWC-WOH web site, the going rate for Digipic1000+RR is $98.33 plus equipment.

You may want to consider bumping up to DigiPic 2000. 1) The set-top is "included" in the price. 2) When you get (2) or more premium channels (which DP2000 includes), the DVR fee drops to $4.95. It won't be cheaper, but it might be *close* in price then you get movie channels.

It was about $11 more per month. I dropped to 1000 as part of a negotiated deal with the, uh, "procurement department" last year.

TWC's current pricing page no longer says that equipment is included in the higher tiers...only the DVR discount. I hate changing plans with them, I always get jipped out of something and then I get the "sorry, you can't go back to your old plan...it's not in the computer anymore" line.

Yeah, I noticed that later... It used to be that way though.

I've talked to many CSRs in the past and always complain about their policy of making any changes to your account will kick you off of your current pricing to the current pricing. They've heard the complaint many times and whether they pass it on, who knows, or does management not care.

Remember my wife worked there for a short time. They could care less about anyone situation or complaint.

IF you didn't receive your lineup change card today, the changes are effective August 29. Only major thing I noticed was that ESPNHD and ESPN2HD will be added as part of standard digital cable, and ESPNU was added to the basic digital tier. They are also doing away with all "W" premium channels that were basically the regular premiums on a 3-hour delay.

According to the TWC phone rep, you can add or remove supplemental packages (Value, Sports, etc.) without affecting any other rates, but if you want to change premiums or anything else considered part of the "main package" (Digipic 1000, 1500, etc.), then your main bill will change. Currently, DigiPic 1000 is $16 more per month that what my old rate is, so if I wanted to change from DigiPic 1000 to DigiPic 1500 my bill would go up around $25, with 10 of it going to the premium channel and 15 going to the price hike. No thanks. I can rent quite a few movies for $25/month.

EDIT: Since it came up, for kicks I priced DirecTV for the exact same channels and services that I get now from TWC. I would have to pay $347 in startup costs (including promotions mostly to account for HD DVR) and (adding in the extra cost of unbundled/no TV RoadRunner) would pay about $25 more per month with DirecTV. Note that the DirectTV price adds a few non-premium channels, but loses some local and HD channels because of local market restrictions. That's as close a comparison as I could get.

Compare things to Dish Network. I believe new customers can get the HD-DVR for free.

Dish would be about $50 startup costs (although it says nothing about installation costs...DirecTV's package specified free standard installation). Total cost (again including RR) would be about $20/month more than what I am paying now. So Dish is less than DirecTV but both are more than TWC.

I could give you a Club Dish card that would waive that add'l $50 fee (I'm pretty sure you can get it waived by committing to an 18-mo contract too). Installation is free.

To be honest, if you're comparing TW "bundles" vs other companies RR and so on, TW will be cheaper.

New HD Channels I noticed tonight:

TBS HD
Food Network HD
HGTV HD

Still no NBC HD. Channel 2 and TWC must really have a good pi$$ing match going.
