Why in the world are you paying 70 dollars for the Extreme package? Here in SoCal I believe its like 45 or 50 dollars.

Simple, it's competition. In SoCal, you have FiOS to turn to. In Brooklyn he probably doesn't have access to FiOS or OOL, therefore, TW has no incentive to offer anything good for the customer.

I'm in a Comcast area that was converted from TWC and I was offered 8/768 that Comcast touts, but at the old TWC price of 69.95 instead of the 10 dollars more that Comcast charges. (It comes to 52.95,)

Actually I'm not in an area where there is a FIOS competition, in fact I'm nowhere FIOS. My area is serviced by AT&T. The only real competition that RR has here is AT&T dsl.

In Columbus I'm paying $54 for RR Premium (15000/768) and usually test at about 14500 down and 730 up pretty consistently. I don't have TWC phone or cable tv (but am thinking about it)

It could also be speedtest.net's servers.

I never get my full 15 Mbps from them...highest I've gotten has been around 13 Mbps...it usually averages 12 Mbps.

Same with BBR's speedtest servers.

Only by using my division's speedtest applet - »speedtest.wi.rr.com do I see the full 15 Mbps.

The best way to measure your download speed would be downloading from a fast host like MediaFire or via newsgroups. Only when I am actually downloading something from a host with 15 Mbps of upload bandwidth do I see it all.

Perhaps the problem is similar in your situation with your 12 Mbps connection.

Road Runner Premium (w/Digital Cable OR Digital Phone) $69.95
per mo.
Road Runner Premium (w/Digital Cable AND Digital Phone) $64.95
per mo.

In Bayside Queens, I am paying $44.00 (in bundle with Cable TV) for RR Standard (published speed is 10 Megs down X 512 K up).

Best I get is 9.5 down and 490 up. Most of day the down speed is degraded by overloads on Roadrunner network.

In NYC right now, I'm paying $29.95 for 6 months then $44.95 for regular Road Runner (10mb/512kb).

Premium is $85/mo that's 12mb/768kb, who would pay DOUBLE for an extra 2mb which you may/may not see?

I get this pretty consistently:

Down here in Florida I pay $44.95 for up to 7 megabit. I get 5.5-5.75 megabits a second on average. Considering I am coming from HughesNet Satellite Internet with 1.5 megabit high latency speeds....this is pie in the sky. I can play XBox Live on it flawlessly.
