| Switched from Verizon Fios and regretting it!
Two weeks ago, after using Fios for one year and having to deal with a price hike to 54.99 (around $62 with taxes) a month since my one year suscription expired, I made the plunge and switched from Verizon to Comcast (mostly because Comcast here is advertising HSI for $19.99 for 12 months). But the conly complaint I have so far is about the speed. Before I had Fios, I had verizon DSL at 3meg/768kbps, and the main reason I went to DSL was because of the 768k upload compared to the pitiful 384kbps comcast was offering. Now,when I went to Verizon Fios, my speeds were a constant 15Mbps download/1.5mbps upload so I was happy camper until my price whent up so I jumped to Comcast last week, for ther 12meg service. Only thing I don't like is the fact that on speed tests here, Comcast easily beats out my Fios with 15-22mbps download and 2-2.5Mpbs upload but it doens't hold for my Orb'ing (a service like Slingbox). With Orb, I can only stream video at 2Mpbs for around 1 minute then it cuts down to 384kbps which makes the video quality suffer and almost useless. I know all of this is becasue of the Powerboost! that comcast offers but I was wondering,do you guys know if I can do anything to get this upload a little higher until my 12 months $19.99 promotion ends and I can go back to Fios. Should I call Comcast and ask for the Boost! config file or is there a option so I can get at least 768k upload like DSL here offers? Even the 3Mpbs 19.99 plan Verizon offers here offers 768kbps upload so why is a plan that has so much download speed crippled by a pitiful upload -- You never know what you have until you lose it. |

| Which plan did you sign up for exactly? AFAIK, the slowest tier that comes with speed boost is the 6Mbit tier, and I thought most areas had been upgraded to 768 upstream with the 6Mbit plan. So effectively, you are seeing 6Mbit down and 384Kbit up (after speedboost)? If so, your only option at this point might be to see if there are promotions for the 8Mbit plan, which should have 768K upstream in the areas that are still on 384Kbit for the 6Mbit downstream plan. -- "The Dude abides." |

| reply to deblin So when will my upload be increased to 768kbps, both Verizon Fios and RCN Starpower offer at least 768kbps-5mpbs upload and both are availble in my location.
I don't know what I signed up for. About 2 weeks ago, I got a postcard flyer in the mail saying to come back to Comcast and I would get speeds up to 16megs for $19.99 a month for 12 months. I mean the dowload is nice, I normally get 15-20Mpbs and the DL doens't cut off after a minuted, but the upload at first starts off at 2Mbps, but then plummets down to 384kbps after one minute. I mean come on, Comcast has been increasing their download speeds but why is the upload speed the same as it was in 2003? |

And here's what I get with Comcast on the same computer:

So is there a line I can call to get my upload to at least 768kbps (DSL upload heh!) but for $19.99 a month, I'll take it -- You never know what you have until you lose it. |

| I think you could call your local area customer service line and you can buy the "Premium" or "Blast" (I just got switched from Time Warner so the names are different from them) I do believe the "Premium" tier has 768kbps. Oh and that FIOS speed test rocks Personally I would stay with FIOS because the Premium HSI service runs about 52 dollars a month from Comcast and for 8 dollars or so more you get twice the upload. -- Team Discovery-Join the fight |

| Yeah, I would be on Fios today if it wasn't for the pricing, for the first year I was paying $39.99 for those speeds even when Comcast was 6mbps/384k before Powerboost, but last month, my wife noticed my bill was $64 for Fios and I was told my rate was promotional so I switched to Comcast when I noticed that my neighbors with them got awesome speeds on DSLreports, but because of powerboost, I couldn't tell that Comcast still left the upload after all these years at 384kbps
Edit: Also one thing, I don't get, why come my download can still sustain 15-20mbps (I download a 300MB Windows XP service pack, and a 7GB Torrent any my download never went below 1.62MB/sec) but the upload goes down to 40KB/sec after one minute of uploading at 200KB/sec |

| I wouldn't really rely on the power boost if I were you I would try and call Verizon to ask for a lower price or you will switch to Comcast and tell others about their deal. Perhaps they will offer then 39.99 dollars a month deal again to keep you. -- Team Discovery-Join the fight |

Perhaps they will offer then 39.99 dollars a month deal again to keep you. I did. they only offered me $49.99 with a two year contrat agreement and I would have to take 5Mbps/2Mbps. That's if you already have phone service for them, and it's also dependent what market your in, and whether you sign a one or two year agreement. As you figured out, I don't have phone service with verizon and I'm in the DC area -- You never know what you have until you lose it. |
