 unusual wireless internet problem

Alright,I used to have my internet run through a wire. But now I decided to go wireless, and everything is just bad. I'll say this right away, my upload speed is fine but my download speed is messed up. I have a NETGEAR WN311T and my router is a WPN824v2. My advertised cable speed is 4096kbp/s(download) and 360kbp/s(upload). My problem is that the longer i'm surfing the web, downloading, or running the speed test, my download speed will keep decreasing over time. For example, when I run the speed test on this website for the first time when I start my computer it will be in the 4000's. If I run it right after, it will be in the 2500-3500. And if I keeping running the speed test, it will just keep getting slower and slower until its in the 30's-50's. The reason why I don't think its my software or adapter is because if I run my computer through safe mode, my internet is fine. If I keep running the speed test it will stay up in the 4000's. I have turned off all background programs.( McAfee, quicktime, etc)I went into msconfig and turned off all the startup programs and services, I still get the same thing. When I had wired cable it was fine. I've had wireless internet in the past an had problems with disconnecting, but nothing like this. I tried really hard to explain this the best I could. Any suggestions on what I should do would be greatly appreciated. My last option is just to reformat my computer and start over.

for the WN311T, the August 2nd 2007 driver may help

The latest firmware for the router is from Nov 15 2006, so you may have that already.

I would think that it is a software problem if its fine in safe mode. I use safe mode all the time to see if the internet is not working because of software. When you start in safe mode with networking you are loading minimal drivers and no startup programs. If you use safemode and get on fine then go back to regular and its messed up then you have software issue.

wireless is slower, always has been and always will be. You cannot expect the same speeds being wireless - do you have 2.4 GHz phones? Sitting/transmitting near a microwave? Many things will interfere with your wireless quality - and no ISP will guarantee DL speeds, wired or otherwise.
