| What's the Best Free irc Client?
I haven't gone on irc for years but now I have a need to and I see mIrc is no longer free.
What's the best free irc client. I found a long list of irc clients on wiki here:

You can still use it after 30 days, but you just have to wait a few seconds and click "continue". |

| reply to TomBrooklyn For free chatting only, I've really come to like Opera's built in client, but that's because I'm already browsing with Opera.
For file transfers I've only ever used mIRC. However, as I'm not transferring files via IRC any more, Opera's text looks a lot better than the text in mIRC so I'm pretty much using Opera exclusively. -- Opera 9.21(Build 8801); Windows XP Pro SP2;Athlon 64 X2 4600+; 2.5GB PC3200 DDR; 1M/128k DSL; NOD32(Version 2.5.25); Outpost Pro 3;Proxomitron 4.5j Grypen 5/23/07(Opera mod),GPG ID:0x0A1C6EE3 |

| reply to TomBrooklyn Guys, he said FREE. I myself am a Linux user and say xchat. It's stable, lightweight, and does all I need it to in a decent interface. The commercially compiled version for Windows is not free, but the source code is free, which you can compile yourself. There are also perfectly free and legal copies floating around that someone compiled from the free source code. The one I looked at was ugly compared to Linux version, but did its job just the same. I made a nice one compiling in a few options of my own awhile back. Compiling source code is a nice skill to have that will become second nature after awhile, |

It's close enough to free. If you can't figure out how to make it free, unplug your PC and watch TV instead. |

AFAIK, no one is forcing anybody to pay to download or use mIRC. Shareware isn't "free"--that's the point. The authors deserve compensation for said software. Actually, they REQUEST it. It's not free. |

Open up mIRC, wait 3 seconds and you're ready to go. -- F@H |
