Drastic speed change

Running WinXP Pro. ATT/Yahoo DSL Express package, 4100 modem and Linksys router (new). Recently noticed slow internet. Went to ATT speed test site and download speed was 324. Upload 312. Thought maybe ATT screwed up my package somewhere along the line. Tried the speed test again without the router and firewall (Kaspersky) shut down. Same speeds. Was getting ready to call ATT but first decided to unplug the modem for a few minutes. Restarted the modem and all is back to normal again (1324). Could the problem have been related to all the recent thunderstorm activity? Never had the problem before.

That's probably the first thing that they would tell you to do.
