This is probably one of the best programs and you could use a different browser than Internet explorer which is probably why she's getting the spyware!

Install Spybot S&D, update it, and then immunize the system. Now add SpywareGuard, SpywareBlaster and Commodo BOClean.

I use Spyware Terminator, it's free and provides real time, and HIPS protection.

Your antivirus program isn't doing it's job if she keeps getting infected. Here is what I suggest:

1. SpyBot - use immunize.

2. SpywareBlaster

3. IE-SPYAD

4. Windows Defender - free real-time protection.

Then "lock down" IE by setting the restricted zone to the highest level for everything.... and get a better AV program.

Isnt that a little overkill? Just kinda wanting to know myself. I have spywareblaster and boclean. If you suggest adding those other 2. I will do so.

With Immunization and the prevention of a lot of these things from even getting in, I do suggest all of the above. It is better to prevent than to clean up later.

I don't believe that SpywareGuard has had an update since 2004! AVG AntiSpyware is very current and does a great job.

Does that mean that the things it does protect/block against are no longer out in the wild?

Of course you're right--it just seems that if one is going to allocate precious system resources, it may as well be for programs that are up to date.

2136k is what is used on my system by sgmain.exe. Task Manager uses double that to display the process.

Just remember that there is not a single program or product that can prevent/protect against it all. You must use a layered defense.

OK....

For preventing spyware or other nasty stuff just get an appliance like BlueCoat or a Router, that actually blocks Javascript while you can use legitamite programs without interrupting your tasks...

In other words, you would want to block soyware BEFORE it hits the network...
