 Portable anti-virus kit

What is there available for portable disinfection: ie collection of antivirus applications that can run from a bootable live CD or thumbdrive/CD?

I know of BartPE, but most of its plugins seem to be in forgotten outdatedness. UBCD seems to be the only alternative. Anything else?

There are several AV that are able to just be run portably easily, like NOD32, Clam, Dr Web, Avast, but these are far from the most vital tools. Thanks.

You asked for 'Portable AVs' and then listed some of the best portable AVs yourself, not sure what you want. ???

You can download a trail of Kaspersky and create a rescue disk. There is an AVP standalone tool in testing.

Also look at AVZ as an addition to your CD

Good ones Norwegian.
The new avptool is a very good choice. I also like the avz one you mentioned. The avptool is very fast and effective though

You will find it on the ftp servers, as mentioned in the beta FAQ's. It is in the same directory as was the beta programs. Because it is beta still, I will not post the link. IM me if you have problems finding it.

FYI

Just a note. It is not advised to run AVPtool on a computer with Kaspersky already installed.

This will be fixed in later versions.

Thanks,
Yeah going to by inlaws soon so I wanted to take a portable scanner.
Now I could not take my NOD32 since they are running NOD32. And I know that NOD32 is leaky and let's few infections through especially when they have a 15 year old in the house. ERgo, I wanted a heavy gun to scan things and this might do the trick.

How do I grab updates? The latest one I saw was 8/8 and it says OUT OF DATE popup.

If its a new virus in the wild then scanners are not going to catch it. The best tool that I have ever found was autoruns. I probably shouldn't even be giving away my secrets(but im a nice kinda guy though). Then use BartPE to remove anything that you find. That is the most effective way to eliminate infections not found after using the person's own updated scanner. Just scanning with an AV program won't cut it any more. The rate at which viruses change nowadays make using other methods such as autoruns a must.

The bases are downloadable off the site, same ones that the AV uses. If you replace them with the latest manually then you get the latest updates. It will not do it for you. They are not releasing it with an updater built in.

Just remember it is still beta. We are led to believe it will be updated more once released. Whether that equates to daily or weekly, or even as updates come out, that much hasn't been decided yet.

You've actually given me a great idea... For a long time now I've kept my own USB-key software package with all the portable security/repair tools I use when someone asks me to fix something.

I also keep a lot of stuff on there (portable browsers) that I use when I don't trust the machine I'm working on (public computers for example). I think I'll tidy it up a bit and post it somewhere, you can give it a fling if you want. I consider it relatively comprehensive at least.

I'll make a new thread when it's ready.
