| | | | Re: at that price, just go TiVo Okay... so why am I only paying $4.99 for TiVo DVR service through DirecTV? Even if you add the cost of the STB itself it's still MUCH cheaper. These days I see a DVR as standard. It's not an option. To me it like having to pay the Telco for touch tone service, if you're going to charge for it then I will just consider it part of the base service when shopping for a better deal. | |

TiVo prepaid is less than $10 per month (depending on plan). even adding in a few bucks for cablecard, you are still ahead.

TiVo costs, what, $300? Then say $11/month for the service and Cable Card (no idea how accurate that is). Let's take the CableCo DVR at $16/month.
Over the course of a year: TiVo cost: $300 + ($11 x 12) = $432 CableCo DVR cost: $16 x 12 = $192
So how long before the TiVo pays for itself? Three years +? I dunno if that's really worth it.
I don't have either DVR at home. Am considering which, but with the initial TiVo cost, it doesn't seem like a cheaper option...though I agree folks sure seem a lot happier with it. KM -- Don't Lie - Be Kind - Realize your Potential
