Wow

Dish costs like $6 a month for the DVR fee. I have the DVR advantage + HD which gives me AT200, locals, and DVR fee for $50 a month flat. Add $20 for HD. I can't believe anyone would pay $16 a month just for the DVR!

yes, and as a bonus for your $50 you get drop outs from the slightest weather related event. Nothing like recording your favorite show just to see it ruined by a small rain shower!

Maybe in your area you have horrible installers. But I had dish for 7 years and only got rid of it because my wifes want to not cut down a tree here.

The only time I ever had a drop in my picture was when we had blizzard white out snow storms. At that point I am shoveling my drive way and walk way so I am not recording or watching TV

That's very rare in the Mid-Atlantic. Virtually every prime-time tv show can now be watched on the Internet the next day...free in most cases. The backup option is there.

You won't have those problems with a properly aligned dish and a clear line of sight to the satellite.

I had the same with Comcrap. Whenever it rained, the box outside filled with water and service went to hell. The box would dry out before Comcrap would bother showing up to fix it. Oh yeah, great reliable service.

Meanwhile since getting DN I pay 30% less than Comcrap and get more channels...and unlike Comcrap, no outtages or 30% price increases.

That's BS, btw. I live in Tulsa Oklahoma and installed my own dish and it's aimed pretty well. I only ever lose signal IF there's a severe storm DIRECTLY south (In the direct path between Dish and Satellite) and it only lasts a few minutes.... In the last 7 years I have been inconvenienced by storm dropout about 3 or 4 times.

... Meanwhile.... When I used to have cable, and with my neighbor's cable TV service.... When severe storms strike, the cable TV fails and is often out for 24 hours plus.

That's my experience, anyway.

I don't like Dish's $6 DVR fee either. I think even $6 is too high.

Right on!

I have FiOS Internet and love it but the TV service fees is making others look like a viable option. I have the ViP 622 from Dish. The triple tuner (OTA) and HD quality is awesome. New HD channels are imminent. Also, a new ViP 722 with a larger hard-drive will be released soon.

When you add up all the extra fees with programming, FiOS TV just sounds $$$.

Re: Wow

Satellite does seem to be the new value leader.

I pay $10/month for analog cable (broadcast channels only), but when they choose to go digital each cable DVR (2 SDTVs) would cost me $15/month.

For the same monthly price I could get a 2-TV DVR (ViP 622) from Dish and hundreds more channels.
