buyout material

They are just waiting on the new AT&T to dangle an attractive buyout offer in front of their face.

that's pretty much what I think.....Will the FCC and government allow it? Of course! They'll play the "oh, it might be bad for the people" game, then, just like the AT&T+Bellsouth merger, they'll let them both merge....after all, it does profit the government in NSA heavily...

I really don't think an AT&T/Qwest merger will ever happen. The feds most likely would oppose this next telco consolidation and I also doubt AT&T will even want them.

Given how the US dollar is beaten down, I expect a foreign entity to take Qwest over. Possibly someone like Deutsche Telekom, the parent of T-Mobile wireless in the US. That would get Deutsche Telekom even more in to the US marketplace. And it would get T-Mobile access to Qwest's national fiber network and allow T-Mobile to more easily expand nationally.
