I had DSL from at&t. We live close enough. I was getting the full (yawn) 6MB/768K. $34.99/mo for dynamic
I then opted for TW's RR Extreme/Turbo/insanely fast - or whatever they are calling it. I am seeing 15MB/1MB w/o any issues. Downloads average 1.7MB/sec and stay rather sustained (like I used to see on DSL).
How much? $39/mo
I was asked from at&t (at the u-verse booth) why one needs that much speed?
1. For $5 more I get almost 3x the speed? - thats a no brainer...
2. Then all the porn I can download - and fast! 
..But looking at u-verse, sadly our speeds is limited to 6MB/1MB - fine for the ave user maybe - but speed is addictive. Once you've seen 15MB - going back to 6MB is like a 6MB user going back to dialup (or so to say).
What I didnt and still dont understand is why at&t cannot do 'dynamic provisioning'. I have a VDSL line..maybe 25-44MB depending on upgrade - and thats to accommodate 4 video streams and 6MB dsl. If I am only watching 1 stream -or- not even watching TV, the rest of the bandwidth sits there...Thats a waste. Let me use the remaining bandwidth or even packet bursting - nope. Perhaps if they start looking into that, then they could compete with TW - but even TW's basic RR is still faster now and cheaper. When I suggested this to at&t, I got the old deer-in-the-headlight-look.
So, TW works and u-verse is just not that cheaper to really consider for most of us. U-verse has brought competition to our area which has stabilized cable broadband prices and increased speeds tremendously.
Oh, and dont even get me started on that piece of CRAP RG that U-verse gives ya. Its made by 2-wire. Can I get a WOO HOO out there ?
